Mrs A H Jarrell 83 Dies at Son's Home Near Butler

Nannie R Jarrell aged 88 died Saturday at her son A H Jarrell's home near Butler after months of ill health. Born Sept 28 1855 in Talbot county she was daughter of Lewis and [surname] McBride and widow of Albert Hardy Jarrell. Surviving children: F W Jarrell H W Jarrell A H Jarrell and Mrs E Mu Gaultney of Taylor county and W T Jarrell of Ft Valley. Funeral held at Antioch Baptist Church Sunday at 3 pm with Rev M T Gaultney assisting. Interment Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. extensive out of county friends noted.

Referendum on joining soil conservation district planned

County Agent W F Bembry announced a referendum set for the last week of March to decide if Taylor County landowners want inclusion in the Middle Western Ocmulgee River Soil Conservation District. At a January 17 hearing, many farmers favored joining. a contact committee of H K Sealy Thelman Jarrell E A Hollis and W A Payne will assist, explain workings, and provide official ballots about a week before the vote.

Poultry Show Draws Taylor County Entrants in Columbus

Thirty four Taylor County poultrymen plan to enter the Baby Chick and Egg Show in Columbus, with six hundred plus chicks and eggs expected. Five thousand chicks to be sold at auction March 23 24 and 25, and a bus trip from Taylor County to Columbus is arranged with forty cent fare. Prizes include cash and mash feed sponsored by local merchants and Emory F Parr. Ruth Holden Lundy dies at four months and Elder Jas E Spillers, 79, dies in Macon. Funeral held at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev G C Jackson Jr officiating. Ruth is survived by parents Dorothy Holden and Walter Lundy, and siblings Dorothy Iva Lundy and others. Grandmothers Mrs B W Lundy of Macon and Mrs Dorothy Holden of Ellijay.

Rural Letter Carriers Banquet Set for Americus Friday

Rural Letter Carriers of the Third Congressional District plan their annual banquet in Americus on Friday evening March 18. A short program is planned and the meal will be catered by the Eastern Star. Postal workers and Auxiliary members across the state are urged to attend, with invitation extended to postmasters clerks and others in the service.

Butler Music Students Entered Into Contests In Atlanta

Thirteen Butler High School students enter the twenty annual senior convention and sixth biennial junior convention of the Georgia Federation of Music Clubs in Atlanta. Miss Etelka Evans of Cincinnati is guest of honor and to speak during the four day meet at Georgia Terrace Hotel. Contests are at All Saints parish house daily 9 am to 5 pm with a 2 hour noon recess. Students compete in piano classes and ensembles under instructors J W Edwards and J S Green.
