Beginning June 30 and each Thursday afternoon thereafter through summer, the Legion Rifle Club will hold target practice at the Legion range. Funeral Services Held At Reynolds For Mrs. Ella Mims

Funeral services for 81 year old Mrs. Ella Mims were held Saturday afternoon in Reynolds with Rev. H F Jelks officiating. Interment followed at Hill Crest cemetery. Mrs. Mims died at her Cordele home after a six week illness. Born in Crawford county she lived most of her life in Reynolds before moving to Cordele four years ago. Survived by son E J Mims of Cordele and sister Mrs. Davie Cooper of Reynolds.

Eugene Talmadge Visits Butler Friends to Discuss Policies

Former Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Eugene Talmadge spent hours in Butler on Thursday en route to Atlanta. He reiterated tariff and farm policy views, criticizing heavy imports of dairy, crops, and textiles while calling for greater domestic production and landowner self-sufficiency. He drew strong support from Taylor county friends ahead of the September primary.

Soil Checks Expected Here This Week Says County Agent Bemby

County Agent W F Bembry told Herald representative that most 1937 soil conservation checks should arrive this week. He estimated total payments around 40000 for participants in the 1937 program, noting reductions where farmers exceeded cotton acre allocations. Delays came from a new system for measuring crop acreages and late start in December 1937. the same method will be used in 1938 and payments are expected in the year of compliance.

Mr. George Booth Dies After Long Illness in Milledgeville

Mr George Booth aged about fifty died early Monday morning at a state hospital in Milledgeville after years of illness He was a longtime Taylor county resident and Union Methodist church member Funeral services were held Tuesday at Union Methodist church at three oclock with Rev M T Gaultney in charge He is survived by his wife five sons and two daughters

Susie Miller Escapes Death in Florida Car Crash

Mrs Susie Miller of Waldo Florida narrowly survives a wreck on Highway No 3 near Rupert when her car overturned several times down a 40 foot embankment near the A B and C bridge. A rear tire blowout caused loss of control. She received minor injuries and was aided by a local resident before being treated at home.

Bolt Of Lightning Fatal To Prominent Taylor Co. Farmer

Mr. Lee Shehee aged about 85 was instantly killed by a lightning bolt while working in his field near his home during a sheysir on the Taylor county farm. He was a lifelong resident, survived by his wife Mattie Simmons and two children. Funeral services were held at Little Bethel church in Macon county with six brothers as pallbearers.

World War film Woodrow Wilson and the World War shown in Butler

Legion Post No 124 presents the world famous film Woodrow Wilson and the World War at the Dean Theatre Butler on July fifth and sixth with showtimes 8 and 9 30 pm Tuesday and 3 30 8 and 9 30 pm Wednesday. The film, a 20th anniversary of the Armistice, depicts Roosevelt Taft Wilson Harding Coolidge Hoover and Roosevelt in action and includes actual battlefield and peace conference scenes with no actors. It features WWI veterans and citizens recognizing themselves in scenes from Argonne Chateau-Thierry and Buckingham Palace.

Welfare Department completes June twenty one seven

Investigations have reached June 21 1987 with a summer drive to finish June and July cases. July awards total 1157.50 with 900.50 to old age 213.50 to dep children 49.50 to the blind. One hundred sixty receiving monetary aid and 140 families on surplus commodities. Whites 87 colored 63 among public assistance recipients. About half of investigations finished for the fiscal year with 800 applications still pending.
