Miona Springs National Park Story and Documentary Notes
At the request of the National Park Service, state historian Mrs. J. E. Hays compiled the historical facts of Miona Springs and submitted them for federal review. The piece traces the site’s 18th century significance, its location near the Flint River Swamp in Macon County, and its potential as a recreational state park with ties to Oglethorpe’s 1789 treaty journey and early colonial maps and traders.

White Crosses Mark Traffic Death Sites in Taylor County
Sheriff John M. Bone places white crosses on main routes in Taylor County to mark people killed in traffic crashes. Large Boiler Explosion At Butler Lumber Co
Butler Lumber Co suffered a major boiler explosion during dinner hour injuring one Negro fireman, Dan Childs, with a fractured arm and facial burns. The blast shattered the boiler room, hurled debris up to 600 yards, and shook nearby homes. owner L. L. Minor reported heavy financial losses but no fatalities. Possum Gill Sponsors Boxing Night in Ellaville Tonight
Julian Possum Gill brings a star studded amateur boxing card to Schley County High School gym at 8 o clock. Butler High awards four medals to graduates
In the Herald issue dated June 8 a correction notes four medals were awarded to the Butler High School graduating class, not three. Recipients include William Adams as valedictorian with a medal, Gray Fountain as salutatorian with a medal, another medal for best all around boy, and Wilma Gill with a medal for best all around girl.

Congressman Owen Dies Suddenly in Washington
Washington June 21 Congressman Emmett M Owen of Georgia's fourth district died unexpectedly tonight while riding in a taxicab from the House office building to his hotel. Death was attributed to heart disease. Owen, a Griffin resident, was in his fourth term and had served on the house agriculture committee. He had recovered from pneumonia earlier this session and left a widow with a daughter Mrs Floyd Headloyd of Rome and a son E W Owen Jr of Jacksonville, Fla. A brother Dr J C Owen survived.

Mrs. W. B. Dasher Former Butler Lady Dies at Ashburn
Mrs. W. B. Dasher longtime Butler resident dies at age 92 while living with daughter Mrs. W. L. Story in Ashburn. She was born Mary Jane Walden of Fort Valley and widowed 27 years ago. Her husband preceded her in death and the Dasher family had been active in business, religious, and social affairs in Butler over fifty years ago.

Geck Couple Return Home After Crash In Michigan
Mr and Mrs Geck return to Onckhama Michigan after a car wreck on highway nineteen near Butler April 20. Mrs Geck lost her right arm, hospitalized at Montgomery, and is en route home by train. Mr Geck, though his car was only slightly damaged, cared for his wife at her bedside during their stay. He thanks Butler residents for kindness and praises the city as sanitary and progressive.

First Cotton Blossom Brought In by County Planter
Mr. R. L. Brown of Howard, a leading Tay lor county planter and sand manufacturer, sent in the season’s first cotton blossoms yesterday morning. He is noted as one of the county’s largest and most successful farmers.

Regulations on Excess Cotton Acreage
Mr I W Duggan director of the Southern Region of the Triple A announced Thursday that farmers planting in excess of their cotton allotment would be given a week after they were notified of such excess to destroy the cotton. This amends the original rules which required that cotton reaching the stage where bolls first formed could not be destroyed to comply with the Triple A contract.

Death Claims' Fun One of Butler's Beloved Men
Charles D. McLendon, long a trusted resident of Box Springs and a beloved figure in Butler, died Friday morning at age 80 plus, after a full life of farming, merchandising and community service. Survived by daughter Mrs. R.0. Montgomery and son Mr. G. R. McLendon. Funeral held at 9 o clock Saturday at the Montgomery home with large attendance. Burial in Box Lerdon cemetery near Box Springs.
