Yesterday the district medical society met to discuss local health issues and potential census implications. The discussion touched on unemployment among younger residents and the impact on community services.
An important meeting of True Friends meets tomorrow at the church. Butler’s new enterprise will ship 300 cases daily of flavored water. A benefit will be held at Weasley church. Building Circle two of the Methodist church plans a chicken supper at Bolling Alley tomorrow night. A Baptist association meeting is set for Junction City next Sunday afternoon. Wedding bells continue to ring in the area. City power outage last night lasted several hours. A severe new rest incident in Butler is blamed on ongoing issues. A piddiera convention date is set for Duraen Valley. A new store building by O Dreizin will be occupied by W G Hill once commissioned. Hon Gordon Singleton passed through yesterday en route to Fort Gaines to deliver an educational address.
A census report shows twenty nine unemployed individuals across Butler and surrounding districts. The data covers persons usually working in a painful occupation, those able to work but seeking a job, and those laid off temporarily. Figures are preliminary and may be revised with later corrections.
June 18 reports that all population and farm schedules for the 10th district covering Muscogee Harris Talbot Taylor Macon and others have been sent to Washington. Supervisor C M Young notes late entries cannot be added. Rev I E D Newton of Atlanta and editor of the Christian Index visited Butler Tuesday.

Mrs. Wm. N. Harder of Marion Ohio president and federation director will direct the Georgia Federation club institute at the University of Georgia July 9 11. She recently chaired a program for the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in Denver. After the institute she will visit Tallulah Falls school.
Hon John B Wilson executive secretary for the present and former Georgia governor, visited Butler Thursday to meet friends keen on his bid for Secretary of State.
Griffin Georgia plans a 90th anniversary event on Wednesday July 16 with Home Coming Day activities. A parade features floats showing growth from pioneer days to modern times. A new water works system begins service that day. A barbecue dinner will be served at 50 cents per plate.
Col H P Wallice and his daughter Mrs M O Pariss of Columbus are reported to have rented a home today after a period of relocation. The brief notice notes their move from Columbus to Dead Lakes Florida.
Farmers resume harvest as county yields rise with a bumper wheat crop. W A Payne cultivated about 200 acres of stiff clay land with a perfect stand and four foot height, expecting around 30 bushels per acre. He harvests with a McCormick Deering Combine, drawing crowds to watch its efficiency cutting, threshing, and returning straw, powered by a light tractor and operated by two men.
The Columbus Baptist Association holds its regular Sunday School meeting in Junction City at 3:00 PM for about one hour. Evangelism is the topic with Rev. L. A. Henderson delivering the main address. Willis, the association president, will preside and churches are urged to attend. Sunday School Day is at 10:00 AM at the Methodist church with a school program and invites all members and friends. Also listed is a sale note for a National Cash Register in Macon, Ga.
The 4 H club camp runs from Monday afternoon July 7 to Thursday morning July 10 at Parks pond. A 15 item program includes an agricultural film by a State College of Agriculture representative, campfire programs on two nights, day activities in scoutcraft and club work, and recreation time. All parents are invited to attend daytime activities and evening meetings.
Cato McCrary, 70, known as Uncle Cato, a long respected Butler citizen, died Tuesday after over a year of illness. He and his large family were noted for righteousness and religious activity, leaving a void in the community. Dred Little, colored, was sent back to the county chain gang to finish a 12 month term after a raid on the Negro's premises found liquor.
Hugh Lawson 62 former city clerk and treasurer was found dead at the old swimming hole in Big Indian Creek near Perry. He had been missing since Saturday afternoon after resigning his posts amid illness and concerns over audits. He had served as Baptist church treasurer for about 40 years and his health declined after his wife’s death.
Mr W P Booth reports 13 acres of cotton with a good stand and careful cultivation aided by boll weevil poison. Mosley Childres shows 85 acres with a remarkable stalk and heavy fruit but fears boll weevils. Childres questions poisoning value. Taylor County notes honored colored farmers Peter and Ida Walker cultivating 15 acres near Reynolds, returning after scarce town work.
The State Highway department updates Route Three from Butler public square to McCants mill with a clay re coating. A steam shovel and new trucks arrived last week and are active on site. Preparatory work may lead to relocation and paving including a survey for an Underpass crossing the Central railroad about 600 yards from the current route.

Morris Talmer, about forty, died from five pistol wounds after a confrontation with James Hodges, also around forty, near A. J. Peacock’s home in Mauk. Hodges, wounded once, is jailed in Butler awaiting preliminary hearing. The pair were involved with Annie Bell Smith, a married woman, and Hodges claimed Talmer attacked him after church. Talmer worked for the Atlantic Coast Line railroad. Hodges farmed for Dave Harbuck.
Father's Day was celebrated in the Payne family with a gathering at the family home of Mr. and Mrs. Payne. Guests arrived with gifts and baskets of food as two children could not attend. Four generations joined the event with relatives from Ellaville Atlanta Panhandle and others, and plans for future gatherings were noted.
Friends learn that T S Chapman former Houston county sheriff is in serious condition last week his illness described as critical He is a native of Taylor county and son of the late Uncle Sam Chapman who long served as treasurer of Taylor county
A chicken supper fundraiser is planned for Friday June 20 at the Bowling Alley starting at 5 PM with later offerings at seven. Sponsored by Building Circle No 2 of Butler Methodist Church, the event promises chicken and additional refreshments to tempt the appetite while funds support church activities. Pub Chairman C F McLaughlin and Solicitor A J Perryman head the organizing party with local friends to attend.
After trips to Sandersville and Tennille, Mr. T. J. Fountain purchased a registered Longyear bred Guernsey bull, a Guernsey cow, and a registered heifer calf. These are believed to be Taylor County’s first registered Guernsey cattle, signaling progress in local dairying. Fountain intends to develop a pure bred herd and market breeding stock.
Heavy Monday rains undermined a steel tower supporting a large water tank for Butler Water Works Co. causing a wrecked structure. An auxiliary tank was connected to restore supply while a larger tower and tank are planned for future city needs.
Miss Mary Bram Dent well known in the area suffered painful cuts after a highway collision near Roberta Monday night. Also injured were Milford Brewer Minnie Mc Gee Robert Hicks and Joe Seagler who drove the other car lacked lights. Dent, niece of Moe H Be Adams, was thrown through the windshield as both vehicles collided.
Ellaville Georgia June 16 George Dykes a 48 year old business man formerly of Atlanta died at Ellaville Monday after a paralysis stroke. He was buried at Ellaville Tuesday with Dr Louie D Newton pastor of the Druid Hiss Baptist church of Atlanta conducting the service. Reared in Schley county he moved to Atlanta twenty years ago where he was active in business as oil company vice president and later in a produce house. Health declined two years ago and he returned to Ellaville.
Mr. R. C. Perkins underwent surgery in Philadelphia about ten days ago for throat trouble. The operation was considered entirely successful. He left the hospital last Thursday and, with Mrs. Perkins and their daughter Sue, visited New York with friends Mr. and Mrs. Pulson. They expect to return to Columbus early this week.
