State agents and local officers raided Upson County venues on U.S. Highways 19 and 80 south of Thomaston arresting seven night club operators and two patrons. Fourteen slot machines seized and eighteen people held on gambling and vice charges with bonds ranging from 200 to 1500 dollars.

Youth Drowns in Lake At Montezuma
Nine year old William Marion Parks, son of Mr and Mrs L K Parks of Montezuma, drowned Saturday after stopping to swim at a pond on the Montezuma golf course following a downtown picture show. A companion boy watched as he disappeared under water. rescue efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. He is survived by his parents and two sisters.

Ambulance Collision in Atlanta Kills Thomaston Man
An ambulance speeding to a hospital with a dying patient, R. M. Mathews of Thomaston, collided with a car in Atlanta. The crash sent the auto into a drug store, injuring about a dozen people. Mathews was dead at rescue. Driver C. L. Chappell of Thomaston and Dr. R. E. Brown of Thomaston were among the injured.

Walter H Joiner, 76, died suddenly Friday morning at his home near Butler. Born September 28, 1871 in Crawford County, he moved to Taylor County to farm. Survived by wife Phobie Bartlett and seven daughters and four sons, funeral held Saturday at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist cemetery with Rev. John M Cox officiating. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
