Laying Corner Stone Hints at Local Church Event

In June a series of exercises marked the laying of the corner stone for a new Methodist church in Butler. Rev J N Peacock delivered the principal address. Several local figures, including Mrs Mattie N Riley and JG Hicks, were reappointed to positions. Other notes mention marriages, community hires, construction booms, and legislative notices, all reflecting a busy Butler area in a past June.

The Dean Theatre screens Penrod and Sam starring Billy Mauch as the boy hero this afternoon at 3 pm and again Friday at 7 and 9 pm. Mrs Agnes O Roberts Dies at 86 in Alabama Home

Mrs Agnes Odel Roberts, about 86, died after brief illness at her Simmsville Alabama residence. She was born in the county, daughter of Mr and Mrs Eldridge Cox, widow of Mrs LD Roberts. Survived by husband two daughters Sadie and Mary Nell two sons James Taylor and an infant, five brothers, three sisters and her parents. Funeral held at LaGrange home of her parents with interment in city cemetery.

New Highway Laws Take Effect July First in Georgia

Georgia enacts new highway and road laws with July 1 enforcement. Road patrolmen will be trained to enforce violations including parking within eight feet of the center line, inadequate vehicle lighting at night, and unsafe brakes or horn. Officers begin patrols July 1, and fines are mandatory for violators.

Mrs Jennie Montgomery Dies After Illness in Iowa

Mrs Jennie Thurman Montgomery wife of J W Montgomery of Mauk community died peacefully yesterday at the family home after a long illness that included time at a sanitarium in Muscatine Iowa She was about 42 and survived by several children Funeral services will be held today.

C C Worker Hurt Departing Camp Near Butler

Walter Rumph, CCC camp member at Fort Benning reservation, was thrown from his motorcycle yesterday afternoon on the way home, suffering a serious fracture of the right leg and other injuries. A passerby carried him to Butler for treatment and he later went to the camp hospital.

Third District Doctors Hold Semi Annual Session At Perry

The Third Congressional District Medical Association met in Perry with the Houston Peach County Medical Society hosting a barbecued dinner. Dr. G A Traylor and Dr. H T Harper led papers on cardiac arrhythmias and vitamin discussions followed by multiple surgical and medical topics with physicians from Macon Columbus Americus and other Georgia cities contributing. Prohibition repeal defeated by 8,277 of nearly 200,000 votes as 26 constitutional amendments backed by Governor Rivers were adopted amid statewide referendum results. Talmadge conceded amendment victories and urged national cooperation to fulfill Rivers administration promises.

Fat Victors Over Leans In Benefit Baseball Game

A Thursday afternoon benefit game at the local diamond sponsored by Circle No 2 Butler Methodist Church ended with the fats defeating the leans 13 to 7 in nine innings. G D Locke pitched for the fats while C S Newton led the bats. Aaron Dreizin starred on the bases for the leans but failed to score.

Voters in Taylor Reject Constitutional Amendments and Repeal

The Taylor county vote on Tuesday showed 285 ballots cast for repeal of the state prohibition law and 400 against. All amendments failed by margins. No. 1 provided aid to the needy and blind, No. 2 mirrored No. 1, No. 3 exempted homesteads from taxation, No. 4 exempted $300 in value from clothing tax, No. 5 allowed property classification for different rates, No. 6 funded pensions for Confederate widows.

Bride And Groom Injured In Roberta Wreck

Mr and Mrs Charles Davis wed at Reynolds Monday night and were injured hours later in an automobile crash near Roberta due to a tire blowout. They were taken to a Macon hospital for minor cuts and bruises. Their damaged car was later taken to Americus.
