Death Makes Inroad Prominent Colored Citizens
Two well attended funeral services were held Monday for Butler’s prominent colored citizens. Albert Searcy Jr., 30, died in Atlanta from pneumonia and was brought home for burial. he had spent ten years in Atlanta after leaving Butler and belonged to a large, notable colored family. Lucile Suggs Thomas, about 29, died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday. She was the daughter of the late E C Suggs and survived by three sisters and four brothers.

State To Pave Taylor County Gap In Highway
The state highway department called for bids Tuesday to pave a 12.4 mile stretch in eastern Talbot County and 6,287 miles overall, aiming to complete the last unpaved gap between Columbus and Macon. Completion would yield a fully paved route across Taylor County from Columbus to Savannah via Macon. Bids open in Atlanta on June 18.
