Former Taylor Co Man Undergoes Leg Amputation After Crash
Robert Byrd, 22, of Panhandle district, was riding a motorcycle when it hit an automobile near Shreveport Louisiana. He suffered a compound fracture and leg infection led doctors to amputate six inches below the knee on Sunday June 4. Byrd, a former U S Army cook at Ft Benning, had been stationed at Barksdale Field since earlier this year. His brother Paul Byrd spent the weekend at his bedside.

Witnesses In Davis Killing Near Columbus Released
Columbus June 5 After over four weeks in county jail at Columbus as witnesses and questioned by investigators the last time Saturday at the solicitor general's office, Seale Whittaker and Marvin Hill, negro laborers at the Muscogee convict camp, have been released in the double killing case of T. J. Davis Jr. and Mrs. Thelma Holmes Will Boyer. Capt L M Houser is held in Stewart county jail, and M Carlisle, charged as an accessory after the fact, is under a $2 000 bond. Authorities pursue the theory the Davis killing occurred at the Muscogee Wishing club near Chattahoochee county, about 18 miles from Columbus. no warrants yet issued for the woman's death. The two victims were found shot in Davis's car on the Moore road about 15 miles from Columbus, the bodies reported by Capt. Houser and Carlisle as they returned from the fishing club.

Double Car Wrecks Injure Several On Route Five Miles South of Butler

Taylor County has received its first R F C allotment for relief of the unemployed. Laborers are being employed on projects at Reynolds Butler and other points as approved by local and state committees. Indictments Returned in Americus Murder Case
Indictments were returned by the Sumter County grand jury charging W. D. Arnold Sr Jack Hicks and Mrs Myrtle Massey with the murder of L W Padgett on June 2 1982. First Watermelons of Season Arrive in Local Market

Site near Butler chosen as state forestry camp hub
A new village will spring up two miles north of Butler to house about 200 young men plus officers and 30 Taylor county locals, forming part of 86 camps statewide under state forester supervision.
