Reynolds Woman Ida Saunders Dies at 83
Mrs. Ida Whatley Saunders of Reynolds died at home on May 27 after years of declining health. Born October 3, 1863 in Taylor County, she was a long time member of Reynolds Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at Reynolds Methodist Church with burial in Hill Crest Cemetery. Survivors include three sons W T Saunders W F Saunders and E L Saunders and two daughters Mrs Royeton and Mrs Merrill.

Truck Crash Near Ellaville Kills Two People
Two people died instantly Friday when a truck left the highway two miles south of Ellaville. Driver Herbert L. Ramsey of Atlanta and a female passenger tentatively identified as Margaret Smith, 21, of Berryton, were crushed beneath the wreckage after the semi-trailer overturned and ran over the cab. Authorities say Ramsey appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Sheriff Indicted in Turner Murder Case in Georgia
A Coweta county grand jury indicted Meriwether Sheriff Hardy Collier as an accessory in the murder of William Turner a sharecropper abducted near Newnan Turner was slain within an hour after his arrest for cattle theft. Seven men face murder charges in the case.

Cadet Joe C Burgin Jr of Macon received the best all round cadet medal at Marion Institute Alabama during graduation exercises. He also won the departmental English medal with a 98.5 average. Burgin, son of Mrs C C Stowe, has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy and will depart for Annapolis in June.

Mrs. Julia Potter Waters of Taylor county died Thursday afternoon at her daughter Ruth Burrell’s home in Asheville North Carolina after a several week illness. Her remains were shipped to Butler for burial Sunday morning at the local cemetery with Rev. W B Heats of Reynolds Baptist Church officiating. She widow of Jim Waters and had lived many years in Miami Florida before living in Butler for treatment. She was a Methodist. Survived by daughter Ruth Burrell of Asheville.

Russell Wins Twice Amendment Doubles Georgia Soil Funds
Washington May 24 Sen Richard B Russell saw the Senate approve his amendment boosting soil conservation appropriations from 225 million to 300 million dollars. If held Georgia would have 7.92 million in federal funds for soil building in 1949, about double 1948. Russell then blocked a shift in distribution that would have hurt the South, preserving 1.274 million for Georgia farmers. The amendment passed 41 to 38 and opponents defeated Young 42 to 39.
