Cotton Cut Certain To Help Farmers, J. H. Tigner Asserts
J H Tigner secretary of the Atlanta Commercial Exchange argues a government acreage reduction benefits cotton farmers. He estimates a per acre cost of 20 dollars for cotton, yields about 165 pounds of lint and 330 pounds of seed. He projects a net loss of 8 45 dollars per acre under current practices, but a 9 dollar per acre profit if acreage is reduced and 165 pounds of lint are priced at 12 cents. He says remaining 50 to 76 percent of acreage would yield about 5 dollars per acre from seed and that cooperation supports Roosevelt administration aims to aid southern farmers, signaling loyalty.
