Eight escaped convicts held a guard at pistol point, seized keys and weapons, then fled in a stolen Plymouth. Three were later recaptured near Roberta, with Warden C. S King identifying B. H. OConnell and L. W. Wilson as two of the escapees linked to the Modena hijacking. The manhunt spread to surrounding counties as officers warned to be cautious.

Macon Georgia February 12 W C Bewley general manager of the Georgia Peach Growers Exchange says there has not been enough cold weather damage in the peach belt to materially reduce the crop He debunks reports of up to 75 percent bloom losses and explains buds to crop ratios and thinning practices He says a fair to good Georgia peach crop is likely if favorable weather continues over the next six or seven weeks Surveys of orchards show varying damage with some trees hit harder than neighbors.

Liquor Seized And Owner Gone After Seizure
An automobile was seized and twenty gallons of home made liquor taken a few miles south of Butter Friday by Sheriff J M Bone. Walter Short, a young white man living in the southern part of the county, is said to have owned the liquor which was brought to town by the sheriff and emptied in a sewer in the presence of several witnesses. Short fled into the woods when the sheriff approached and has not been located, though a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

A lease bill to cap past due loan installments at 8 percent was introduced Friday by Mr. DeFoor of McIntosh and Mr. Dudley Taunton of Taylor. The measure excludes banks. Taunton also filed a bill requiring sanitary cups for soft drinks and a third bill barring merchants from operating cafes inside shops that sell drugs, soft drinks, and confections, while allowing on premises sandwiches.

An early Tuesday crash near McCants mill sent Mr. and Mrs. Smith into a pond after the car left the dam. Both were injured with Mr. Smith severely. Mrs. Smith escaped with minor injuries. Witness R V Culverhouse helped prevent drowning, and Mrs. Smith has nearly recovered while Mr. Smith remains hospitalized in Atlanta.
