Regents Bill Advances in Senate and House Action
In Atlanta on Feb 5 the Georgia Senate passed the regents bill 82 to 6 and the House adopted a concurrent resolution to appoint a joint committee to travel to Washington to study the President's 4.8 billion relief program and draft bills to enable Georgia participation. The measure shifts athletic receipts to the state university system and reallocates tuition. the plan now returns to the House. The House also tabled a Talmedge measure to authorize shorter extraordinary sessions.

President Ball at Buena Vista A Big Local Success
Buena Vista Georgia February 2 a capacity crowd gathered at the courthouse Wednesday evening January 30 to celebrate the President's birthday in a colorful event. Dancers from neighboring towns joined Buena Vista, with lovely costumes and garlands of silver gray moss and southern smilax. A large cake from Everidge's Bakery in Columbus was auctioned, and Hon. Joe S. Burgin chaired the event. The ball was hailed as a financial and social success by Buena Vista citizens and co workers.

Quarterly Conference for Butler Charge Held at Wesley
Wesley community in Taylor County hosted the first session of the Butler charge quarterly conference with Rev. J. M. Cutler delivering a fitting sermon. A noon basket dinner was provided by Wesley’s grand ladies, officials reported strong results for the Columbus district, and Rev. Butler was hosted by Rev. and Mrs. Hightower. Butler preached a fine sermon on Sunday to a large crowd, and plans were made to hold the next conference at Mark, a new addition to the charge.

Death of T. J. Davis Naval Stores Operator Shocks Community
The death of Thos J. Davis in Columbus follows influenza and complications. A leading naval stores operator with plants in Taylor and adjoining counties, he leaves wife Elizabeth and children Thomas J. Davis Jr Blair Annabell Helen Miriam, plus siblings in Rome Georgia and relatives. Funeral services are set for 3:00 PM at the Valdosta residence conducted by Dr Hendley Fugate with interment in Valdosta cemetery.

Malaria Control Project Near Reynolds Approved
The Georgia Emergency Relief Administration approved a large project eight miles north of Reynolds to clean Gum Pond and Lucas swamps. Malaria central work will be led by GERA with the State Department of Public Health, providing work for eighty three relief recipients for an indefinite period.

Americus Heads Erosion Project Across Georgia Creeks
The federal Soil Erosion Service names Americus as headquarters for a 60 000 acre erosion project covering southeast Marion southwest Schley and northwest Sumter counties. Lou E Rast leads the effort as part of a two county Athens area project while civilian conservation camps may join to aid the work. The Bir Muckalee and Little Muckalee watersheds show severe erosion with 15 000 and 12 000 acres affected respectively.
