Judge C F McLaughlin and Hubert Calhoun a solicitor general elect returned Monday night from a several days stay at Panama City Florida where they went on a fishing trip it is reported from Columbus Judge McLaughlin stated that little fishing was done due to bad weather conditions prevailing most of the time of their stay
Women in the local Baptist church observe a week of prayer for foreign missions, contributing a record freewill offering to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The memorial honors Miss Lottie Moon, Virginia born, who taught in Cartersville and volunteered for China in Shantung Province for 40 years.
The Post Master General announces all city village and rural carrier deliveries and window service will be suspended on Christmas Day except for gift parcels at city and village offices. Mail early to ensure delivery before December 24 with guidance to mark items Do not open until Christmas.
Olive Lodge No. 10 F and A M will mark its 100th anniversary in Talbotton Ga on December 18 with a four o'clock regular meeting and officer election. A 6 o'clock dinner at Straus Levert Memorial hall will follow, featuring speakers Congressman Emmett Owen of Griffin and Grand Secretary Frank B Baker of Macon. Rev John W Womble will recount the lodge’s history amid musical numbers. Wives and friends are invited.
News reaches that Mrs. Ed A. Hollis, living six miles east of Butler, remains critically ill with pneumonia after recent improvement. Family and friends are advised to await further word as her condition is reported serious last night.
John Robinson, a well known Black laborer in Butler County, died after more than four years of illness. He long served on the farm of Hon. J. T. Childs, and in a remarkable coincidence the employer and employee died within an hour of each other on Wednesday morning. They will be buried in separate cemeteries at the same hour today.
J T Peterman 66 a longtime Butler resident who spent eight years in Macon died at his Macon home after months of illness. He operated blacksmith shops in Butler and Pickling's mill before moving to Macon. Survived by his wife Ida Gaultney four daughters two sons three brothers and three sisters. Funeral service held at Midway church with interment in nearby cemetery.
A State Rural Superintendents and Principal Association formed in Macon with H S Shearouse Larwick as president. V P Folds Butler elected vice president and Jas C Means Sumner secretary treasurer. Members include county superintendents and small school principals. The group aims to cooperate with educational forces on rural education issues.
Rev. C. J. Mallette, former Mauk Methodist pastor, died at his Wrightsville home after a three week illness. He served 31 years in the South Georgia conference and is described as well regarded by his community. His early home was in the Springfield area.
Only three days remain to pay 1986 state and county taxes under Georgia law. The deadline is Saturday night, December 19. Taxpayers still unpaid are urged to settle now to avoid the final rush, per Tax Commissioner G. A. Roberts.

Prominent Taylor county farmer and church leader Hon J T Childs dies after a pneumonia battle. Born September 11 1856 he served in the state legislature and as county commissioner and school board chair. Survived by wife Leona Daniel and children Atheline Saylor James D J R Childs W A P B Childs seven grandchildren two sisters and one brother. Funeral set for Bethel church with Elder J A Monsees presiding and burial at family lot near Edwards Brothers.

General Asa G Singleton, commanding Fort Benning Infantry School and county native, visited Friday and called at the Herald office. He noted 7399 bales ginned for the 1986 crop by December 1, compared with 9868 bales for the 1936 crop.
