Notice to cotton holders announces a December 14 gathering at the Butler courthouse to counter declines in cotton prices. The call urges unity to seek production-cost plus profit pricing and cites resistance to federal price fixing with a list of regional agricultural officials and farm unions.
Governors of the Cotton States praise the Georgia 1918 Cotton Conference action. The resolution calls farmers merchants and banks to withhold cotton until a price above production cost is reached and to fund obligations by borrowing. It urges increased food crop acreage and publicity, with state organizers at county and school district levels.
Sergeant Wm W Steed writes from Somewhere in France on Nov 4 1918 describing well being and life during wartime. He notes leaving Camp Gordon Ga Oct 17 and reflects on the English spirit and YMCA support. He mentions sailing on Waterland the largest ship in the world and hopes for an end to the war. He cannot share his exact address yet and sends love home.
F. L. Rounsevelt is Secretary of the Oklahoma Marketing Commission. F. M. Gault serves as President of the State Board of Agriculture, Oklahoma. W. R. Camp is Chief of the Division of Markets North Carolina.
Mrs Mirager Heath born February 12 1845 in Butler County daughter of Hon Jeff Riley sister of Judge Homer Riley. She joined Antioch Baptist Church at sixteen and remained faithful. Survived by three daughters Carrie Casey Lila Bazemore and Hattie Bazemore widow of W E Bazemore. Interment in Antioch cemetery December 9 conducted by Rev J T Adams.
Mitchell Searcy 38, a member of a prominent family, died Saturday at Mrs. J. H. Adams home in Wesley church community from a self inflicted shotgun wound. He had been ill for weeks and despondent over his health. Survived by his father H. M. Searcy and two brothers C L and John Searcy. Funeral conducted by Rev. J H Allen from Reynolds.
A petition for a new bank charter in Butler, Taylor County, seeks approval from the Secretary of State in Atlanta. The Taylor County Bank would occupy the McGee building on the southwest corner of the public square, remodeled with modern fixtures and funded to foster local agriculture and peach growing interests.
Announcement from Mauk reports the death of Mrs Emma Hollis Montgomery, who passed away at 3 AM Sunday after a prolonged illness. The obituary highlights her Christian faith, devotion as wife and mother, and notes a husband, a son, and numerous relatives mourning her loss. Interment followed Monday at Pine Level church cemetery with Rev. M. T. Gaultney officiating.
Rev. J. T. Adams reports the death of Charlie Adams Jr aged about seventeen in Wheeler Texas after an eight day illness from pneumonia following influenza. He was beloved by his parents W. W. Adams and Mrs. Adams and many friends in the community express deep sympathy.
