Atlanta man leaves $100000 for girls education fund
Local interest centered on a Georgia bequest by Charles D. Moore to support education for girls in Talbot and Taylor counties. Junction City and Mauk Masonic Lodges hosted the Talbot-Taylor convention’s second quarterly meeting. Despite heavy rains, attendance was good. Frank Baker and Dougherty spoke, a fish supper was served, and the Master’s degree work followed a public afternoon session. Fire Destroyed Garrett Residence and Dental Office
A serious blaze destroyed the home and dental practice of Dr. Eli Garrett in Butler on Monday afternoon. Flames rapidly consumed the residence and office, with only a few items saved from the parlor, kitchen, and dental room. Insurance covered about half of Dr. Garrett’s eight to ten thousand dollar loss. the family plans to live with Mrs. Garrett’s mother until permanent arrangements are made. The dental office fixtures were saved and relocated to the Masonic building. Dr. Montgomery will resume practice once supplies arrive from Atlanta. The Garrets express gratitude for community kindness and sympathy.

Prohibition Officers Capture Large Still Plant Near Butler
Five internal revenue officers from Macon led by W Johnson Jr seized and destroyed one of the county’s largest whiskey outfits. The plant five miles west of Butler near George Smith’s home operated by four men said to reside in Upson County. Smith and his son were summoned to Macon to testify on seized property. Paraphernalia, 140 gallons of whiskey and 700 gallons of beer were destroyed.

Mrs Taunton Dies After Long Illness at 81
Mrs Mary Elizabeth Ronee Taunton widow of B M C Taunton died Sunday after more than a year of illness. She was 81 on June 24 and a Randolph County native who lived in the county over six decades. A Missionary Baptist from Mt Pisgah, funeral services were conducted by Rev J T Adams on Tuesday. She is survived by her husband and children Mrs J E Cox LaGrange, Mrs C Collins Ft Valley, Mrs L De Shirah Ideal, A J Taunton Miami Fla, W A W Taunton and G N Taunton the county residents, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
