Former Butler native Mr Lois Smith died suddenly of a heart attack at his Macon home on Thanksgiving night. He had been a conductor for Central of Georgia railroad before retirement and was a member of Fickling Masonic Lodge First Methodist Church of Macon and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Funeral and interment were held in Macon Friday afternoon with Rev George Zorn in charge. He is survived by his wife Blanche and brothers J I Smith of Macon and G C Smith of Eastman.

A Sumter superior court jury awarded Brooks Montgomery $4 027 against Bernard Waitsman for damages after being struck by an automobile allegedly driven by Young Waitsman. The accident occurred last summer at Jackson and Forsyth streets. Police records show Waitsman was fined and his license revoked for several months.

Captain Floyd C. Jarrell son of Mr and Mrs F C Jarrell of this county is serving with Headquarters IX Corps 172nd Station Hospital in Sendai on Northern Honshu Island. Butler Native Rev. Ashton Jones Halted by U S on World Tour
From Cairo, Egypt, Rev. Ashton B. Jones and his Atlanta resident wife were ordered to return to the United States after six weeks in Egypt. They planned to visit India and China next while writing a book on world brotherhood, having left the U S in November 1947 and traveled to South America, France, Britain, Holland, and Switzerland. The American consul general says passports remain valid with return restriction. Jones did not know the reason for the order. The Herald editor expresses thanks and requests copies of issues related to his overseas travels.

Veterans in training under the GI Bill should verify that monthly progress reports were sent to the Veterans Administration. Georgia VA regional manager Vaux Owen said many schools failed to forward reports.
