Farmers to Vote On Cotton Program Tuesday December 13

J L Morgan chairman of the State ASC warns cotton farmers they will vote in a national referendum on marketing quotas for the 1956 upland cotton crop. If two thirds approve quotas, quotas and penalties apply. price supports rise to full parity. If disapproved, no quotas but supports at 50 percent. All 1955 cotton growers eligible to vote. Acreage allotments continue for 1956.

Barbecue at Mauk School Benefit Dinner Saturday

A barbecue at Mauk School is set for Saturday evening December 3 at 6 o clock. Tickets are one dollar per plate. Sponsored by Charing Methodist Church to raise funds for church repairs painting and gas heating installation. A fashion show by local men will feature ladies apparel. All residents invited.

Butler Lions Club Drives Band Fund Yet to be Raised

Butler Lions Club members vote to sponsor a fund drive for high school band instruments. Director Brown cites bass horn two baritones and three altos costing about 1375 dollars. Donors listed include Clinton Clark 20 and Dr. Eli Garrett 2 with total contributions reaching 395.50 dollars and more to come.

Cotton Allotments Established for Taylor County Farms

Taylor County farms begin allocating 1956 cotton acreage under the national limit of 17 391 304 acres for upland cotton. Farmers will receive mail notices of individual allotments before the December 13 marketing quota referendum. Allocation favors past cotton growers while reserving portions for new farms and hardship cases.

Vagabond Kings to Perform at Butler High December 5

The Vagabond Kings basketball team will play at Butler High School Gym on Monday December 5 at 8:00 p.m. The all white touring club, organized by King Boring in 1947, has earned a strong reputation across the region. The Butler Lions Club sponsors the event.

County Tax Commissioner Announces 1956 Auto Tags Sale

Clifford H. Adams announces 1956 auto tag sales will begin around January 1. Tags must be purchased in the county of the owner's residence, with different classes covered, and prices increase by weight categories. Applicants must show affidavits of ad valorem tax payment. no special numbers or mailed tags.

Legislator May Serve on County Board of Education

Attorney General Eugene Cook issued an unofficial opinion to Carroll County Representative C. C. Perkins stating that a person may legally hold both a county office and a state legislative seat. He notes county board membership is a county office while state legislature is a state office.

Thomaston churches and schools plan the first annual Christmas Parade and pageant on Wednesday starting at 3 45 p m The event features 38 units with religious floats songs by school and church choruses and a 60 piece 14th Army War Band concert on the courthouse square The organizers emphasize a noncommercial celebration inviting regional guests to share in the Christmas message and festivities.

Addition to Montezuma Factory Will Be Occupied Before New Year

Robinson Rayon Co a Shaw mut Inc subsidiary will operate in Montezuma before the New Year. The firm will twist and finish synthetic yarns and supply Southern markets. An 8400 square foot addition adjoins the Vanta Corp plant and a 100 acre ACL Railway site supports expansion. A 10080 square foot shipping room will complete the unit. The additions are expected to add 30 to 40 workers bringing total staff near 340.

Allman Home Burned With All Contents Loss Estimated

A large fire destroyed the Allman residence seven miles south of town at the Bateman Colbert Mill area. Mr and Mrs Greysden Allman and their pickup were uninsured totaling about 15000 dollars. They are faculty at Butler High School and were home after dismissal when the blaze began. Neighbor Archie Barfield first spotted the flames and attempted to intervene. The community offers aid to the affected family.

Talbotton Masons Honor Dr. Bardwell 50 Years

Olive Lodge No. 10 held a special meeting in LeVert Memorial Hall to honor Dr. E. L. Bardwell for 50 years of continuous lodge membership. Grand Lodge officers D. W. Locklin and Ben Harvey Hill spoke as 85 Masons and guests attended the supper.

Marine Recruit Officer To Visit Butler Weekly

Marine recruiters will visit Butler in Columbus every first and third Tuesday each month from 1 30 to 3 p m to interview eligible youths and young adults for U S Marine Corps enlistment. Enlistment ages range from 17 to 28 with options for three or four year terms. Draft eligible young men are invited to learn how volunteering may affect their chances. No waiting list exists for enlistment at this time.
