Bishop J L Decell urged Georgia Methodists to raise funds and purchase Wesleyan College property to preserve the first women’s college. Dr Dice R Anderson outlined the college’s financial crisis and the $3,000,000 estate offered for about one fifth, with bondholders’ committee negotiations and options for repurchase.

Miss Callie Stringfield Dies After Brief Illness
Miss Callie Stringfield, 73, lifelong Taylor County resident and Butler Methodist Church member, died Wednesday night after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 pm at Butler Methodist Church with Rev. A Martin presiding. interment followed in the church cemetery. She is survived by two brothers Charlie and Edd Stringfield of Butler and a niece Mrs. John Emmett.

A. E. Guinn leads the Thirteenth Georgia National Egg Laying Contest for October with the top single hen of 30 eggs and 1.6 points. Two of Guinn’s pens place third and fifth in total points, with four Guinn entries and one sold to Cosby Hodges Milling Co. earning four of eight high egg counts.

Funeral Services Held For Mr. M. E. Streetman
Funeral services for Martin I Streetman were held at Prosperity cemetery near Rupert. He died November 21 at his Phenix City Alabama home after a long illness. Born September 5 1878 in Stewart County Georgia he lived in Taylor County near Rupert for years. He married Nancy Lougenia Millicons on November 14 1897 and had eleven children, nine of whom survive with his wife. Friends report Mr. William Gee son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Gee of near Butler is improving rapidly after a period in Montgomery hospital with pneumonia. He was moved home Monday to a residence several miles west of town as his condition improved.

Foy Rustin Dies Friday at Garden Valley
Mr. Foy Rustin, about 40, son of J L Rustin and the late Milbery Rustin, died at his Garden Valley home Friday morning after pneumonia. He was a former educator and long time farmer in Taylor and Macon counties and married Ellene Shepherd twelve years ago. Funeral at Bloodworth cemetery near Charing, conducted by Rev. H McCorkle. Survived by widow, father, five brothers, six sisters, and numerous relatives.

Three Men Injured In Auto Wreck Near Here
Three men were injured in a late Saturday auto wreck two miles southeast of Butler near Horse Creek. Henry Jones of Taylor county R D Harris and A B Chester of Fort Benning were treated at Montgomery hospital. Arthur Blair of Taylor Mill Ft Benning faced a $15 fine for operating without a license. Sheriff J M Bone noted no other arrests.

The two year old Chloris Bruner, daughter of Mr and Mrs H P Bruner of Butler, who have been living in Savannah, has greatly improved after a bout with pneumonia. She was in a Savannah hospital for several days and has been sent home as her condition improved.

Eight Room Butler Grammar School Nears Completion
The remaining four rooms of the new eight room brick veneer Butler grammar school have been finished and all grammar grades moved in. The old high school will serve high school grades. Vacated rooms will become a library, sewing room, typing room, and science laboratory. The WPA project was funded through the Taylor County Board of Education and supervised by building contractor W M Smith. County superintendent W P Austin says the building is among Taylor county's most modern. Smith notes he also won a paving contract for Reynolds sidewalks, another WPA project. All Taylor county WPA work falls under assistant area engineer Thomas P Randolph. Smith has recently completed repairs at Wolds High and a colored high school in Reynolds.

The recently completed home of Riley Bazemore on Highway 8 near Butler burned around 7:30 Sunday night. Firemen saved exterior walls and part of the roof. interior was wrecked by water and smoke.
