Georgia voters aiming for the September 8 Democratic primary should file absentee applications by August 28. Attorney General Eugene Cook and Secretary of State Ben Fortson explain that voters must notify a county registrar 10 to 60 days before the election, be deemed eligible, and receive a ballot at least nine days before voting day.
The Modern Beauty Shop owned by Mrs. Bertha Carson and Mrs. Bernaline Gilson opens Saturday August 28 on the first floor of the Masonic building. Open House Friday August 27 from 9 a m to 5 p m with free visits and inspections. Reduced prices for two weeks follow for all services.
A revival series continues through next Sunday evening in the superior courtroom at the local courthouse. Rev. Horace McCants of Mission Texas leads most sermons with Rev. Langdon Peed and Rev. Frank Bohler assisting. Mrs Bennie Neisler directs song services with Evans Locke Billie Sullins Billie Childres and Alfred Robinson performing. The public is invited to attend each evening at 8 p m.
Reverend W H Emerson died at his home eight miles south of Butler after a long illness. Born March 26 1875 in Taylor County he spent most of his life in the county and served as a minister in the Free Will Baptist faith. He baptized many and performed numerous marriages while active in Sunday School work. He joined the Masonic order as a young man and belonged to Fickling Lodge No 129 Butler. He outlived his wife and lived with his daughter Bessie Emerson at his passing. Surviving relatives include two daughters Mrs Mary L Stainaker and Mrs O M Williams a sister Mrs H E Streetman a brother Homer Emerson five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Little Bethel church with Masonic Lodge members assisting Pallbearers E L Davis Vernon Allgood T E Tante Tom Harmon E L Holloway and E D McCorvey honorary pallbearers Rev W J Childree Rev Knighton Rev J R Hunt and Rev B T Gill. J W Edwards II led funeral arrangements.
Attendance is good at all services of the Howard Methodist revival with strong interest. Rev Bruce M Wilson of Pem broke is the visiting minister delivering sermons through next Sunday.
Local talent in music is used with enthusiasm as Davies Chimes Inc. of LaGrange installs special equipment for music during the meeting. A representative will give a special demonstration Friday evening. Everyone is welcome to each service. Worship hours are 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The display lists multiple children with their parents' names across four rows.
The local Methodist church will have Billy Childres conduct the morning worship next Sunday a fifth Sunday while the pastor attends a revival at Howard church. Evening worship will be held at the Baptist church. Childres plans to attend college at Young Harris soon, according to the pastor.
Funeral services were held at Morgan Baptist Church for Mrs Paul Dozier who died August 11 in Albany after suffering a heart attack. She was interred in Morgan Cemetery after passing away in an ambulance on the way to Albany hospital.
Registration for the new draft starts next Monday with a schedule from the Georgia Selective Service. Men born in 1927 and earlier have specified dates through September 19 1930, and those older must register on or near their 18th birthday. Brig Gen A A Fowler warns all 18 to 26 year olds must register and local boards will grant deferments liberal as allowed. Taylor County Draft Board 137 led by Clerk William Gray lists its members.
The Cox warehouse in Taylor County, a historic large brick warehouse built by S. E. Cox for cotton storage, has been converted by Ishmael Cox into double storefronts used by John Eason as owner of the Dixie Bargain House. Eason showcases a wide stock with attractive displays and price tags.
Due to product shortages the Butler Vocational Canning plant will operate Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 3 30 weekly. The Reynolds plant will be open Wednesdays from 1 to 3 30 p m. E G McCants Voc Teacher.
A blaze at J. R. Wilson’s rear variety works in Butler caused heavy losses estimated over 25000 dollars. Fire departments from Reynolds, Fort Valley, and Thomaston joined Butler crews to save adjacent homes and the Methodist church, with only portable machinery salvaged. Wilson thanks the communities for heroic firefighting and rapid response.
The body of Pfc Benford Rogers was laid to rest at Turners Chapel cemetery four miles north of Butler on August 13 in a large gathering of World War II veterans relatives and friends. Rev J W M Stipe pastor of Butler Methodist church and Scout Master led the rites. Rogers enlisted January 1943 and was killed January 13 1945 in Belgium with Battery C 216th Field Artillery. He was the son of Mr Ira and Mrs Lula Moore Rogers and husband to Beatrice Brooks with a daughter Carolyn whom he never met.
A young peoples choir has been organized and greatly enjoyed at Reynolds Baptist Church. Pastor Bro. Heats asks every person under 24 in reach of the church to attend choir practice next Sunday evening at 7 o clock.
