Twenty Highway Projects Set Saturday Final Award Soon
Atlanta, Aug. 19 The State Highway Board let contracts for 20 road projects totaling 2 1/2 million dollars. Final award will be issued next week after bid examinations. Projects span Appling to Wilcox counties with paving, grading, and bridge work by noted contractors including Monaghan, Strickler, Attaway, Florence, Acme Construction, Coffee Construction, and Crumley and Crumley.

Reynolds Youth Drowns While Swimming in Lake
Luther Marion Payne 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge Payne, died of drowning about 1 30 P M Wednesday while swimming with friends in Tom Childree lake three miles south of Reynolds. Childree helped retrieve him but efforts to revive failed. He was born April 22 1936 in Bibb County and moved to Reynolds with his parents years ago. He attended Reynolds grammar school. He had earlier been badly injuredJune 5 in a tree fall that punctured his stomach but recovered. He survived by parents three sisters and seven brothers. Funeral 4 30 this afternoon at Mt Olive church Taylor Mill with interment Mt Olive cemetery. Goddard Funeral Home Reynolds conducting arrangements.
