The Thomaston Production Credit Association will hold its annual stockholders meeting in the Upson County courthouse courtroom Thomaston Friday August 18 at 10 30 a m. Items include election of two directors to terms and approval of Class A stock sale to members. Reports cover the past year and 17 years of operation. The association organized in 1933 has 472 stockholders in Lamar Monroe Pike Taylor and Upson counties with assets over 100000.

E L Forrester was officially named the Democratic nominee for Georgia's Third District in Congress. The Americus solicitor general pledged to fight communism and preserve the American way of life at the Third District Democratic convention in Americus theater.
Sumter County Farm Bureau members in Americus Ga adopted a resolution to sponsor a Steve Pace Day this Fall honoring retiring Congressman Pace for 14 years as representative of the Third District. The bureau invites other district chapters to join the celebration.
On August 7 1949 and reports from multiple bureaus describe Marine and Army units breaking through heavy enemy barriers on the South Korean front despite poor roads. Casualties hit Leathernecks as plans were announced to call up 80 000 Marine reserves, expanding active strength to about 200 000. The Philippines offered to send a fully trained 5 000 infantry regiment to Korea. A tank led Communist advance neared the South Korean capital Eaegu within 10 miles as Allied forces held the western line. Australian Mustang pilots said haystacks on the front abroad exploded dramatically when struck on suspicion of housing explosives.
Elder S H McCorkle longtime Primitive Baptist minister in Marion County dies at his Buena Vista home after months of illness. Survived by wife Aurie and three sons David Atlanta Johnnie Ellaville Sylvester. Funeral held 3 p m Tuesday at Providence Baptist Church conducted by Eld M A Hall and Eld Cacy Phillips.
Southwest Georgia vocational homemaking teachers from Taylor county will attend a state wide professional conference in Milledgeville the week of August 14 19. Miss Myra Byrd and Mrs Ruth R Jones represent Butler and Reynolds high schools with Miss Effie Pullen of Tifton as assistant district supervisor. Speakers include Mrs Ralph Hobbs Dr M D Collins Dr M D Mobley Guy H Wells and David C Mobley with Miss Florida Moore as a conference leader.
Mrs. Martha Christian 68 longtime matron of the Georgia State College for Women Milledgeville died suddenly after a heart attack Tuesday in Buena Vista where she lived. A Marion county native daughter of Fletcher Nelson and Dora Short she also worked as a supply teacher for the Marion county high school.
The Butler Post Legion Auxiliary hosts a banquet Tuesday at 7 PM at the Legion Home to honor the Post Junior Legion Baseball Team for completing its season. Guest speaker will be Frank Andrews director of Junior Legion Baseball at Thomaston. All players invited for a gala annual event.

Cordele August third saw the Third Congressional district county commissioners form a district association. M. W. Tift of Albany, president of the Second District group, presided. G. L. Matthews was elected president and R. C. Harris named vice president. Mrs. M. R. Holles elected secretary treasurer.
Civic leaders from Columbus and Phenix City visit Reynolds and Butler Tuesday morning as part of the Hi Neighbor Day program. They will be at Reynolds City Hall at 10 30 a m and Butler courthouse at 11 30 a m to invite Taylor County citizens to visit Columbus and Phenix City, not only on Hi Neighbor Day but every day.
Governor Herman Talmadge accepted the Democratic nomination in Macon for a new four year term. He pledged progress for Georgia and urged unity and support amid wartime needs. Delegates from all counties approved his renomination alongside Lt. Gov. S. Marvin Griffin and other officials.
Taylor County farmers are invited by Director George H. King to tour the Coastal Plains Experiment Station on Monday August 14. Meet at the courthouse at 8 AM to depart as a group and arrange transportation through Tom Hawkins, Co Agent.
Dozier D Bellew of Oglethorpe 58 was found dead in his wrecked automobile at the bottom of a creek near an old ferry in Macon county. State patrolmen said he died from injuries when his car left a small bridge and plunged into the creek six miles west of Marshallville on Georgia Route 127.
