The Burra Rise Rifle Club held a 300 yard match where W G Woodman led the men’s section and beat Marston by two points. Man Held On Murder Charge At Studholme
A shooting at Studholme near Burra on Wednesday left Lance Phillips dead and Lillian Mattner severely wounded. Leslie Wells, 28, of Mt Mary, is charged with murder after entering the Phillips homestead and firing. Mattner testified Wells attempted to flee with her, while authorities recovered a 303 rifle and three empty shells during a search of the property. A post mortem confirmed the fatal wound, and a large police inquiry followed as the town faced rumors and details emerged at bedside and police inquiries.
