PEC To Fight Increase

Johnson City PEC directors met on September 19 to oppose an LCRA rate increase. They accepted 950 new members, approved temporary general funds for a Buda substation, and paid last month’s bills totaling 244033.71 for purchase orders 1747136.08 for the LCRA power bill and 334236.50 for operations. The LCRA hike would raise PEC bills by 1.41 percent, the largest for its customers. Will Martin noted the impact grows with usage.

Burnet Considers Hotel Motel Occupancy Tax

Burnet City Council in a special session discussed a proposed occupancy tax on hotel and motel rooms and potential remodeling of City Hall. State law allows a three to four percent bed tax on lodging under a month, over two dollars a night, with revenue supporting visitor promotions and city projects. Alderman Jim Fry noted it could fund various improvements.

Burnet Council Refers Water Pressure Issue to Engineers

Burnet City Council referred the water pressure problem at the P J Hill residence to Willis Environmental Engineers. The Hills report pressures near 15 psi against a 35 psi minimum, with the council scheduling a Sept. 29 workshop to discuss long term water and sewer system plans.
