United cabinets which is incidentally changing its name to Aristokrat is a division of Beatrice foods a one of the Quot least known major corporations in the country Quot according to Ted Ruwitch president of the consumer Home products division of the company. The company is not new to Texas according to Ruwitch. At a breakfast attended by Many Burnet civic leaders he outlined some of the other companies which Beatrice foods owns in Texas a a finance and insurance company in Amarillo which had revenues in excess of $200 million last year branches of the John Sexton company in Houston and Dallas rendering plants in Amarillo and Dallas a jewelry company Stucky a in Houston and a plumbing Plant in Tyler. The company already employs More than 2,500 texans with a Texas payroll of Over $14 million annually Ruwitch pointed out. Quot so we re not new to the state Quot he said. Beatrice foods is projecting $6 billion in sales in the United states and eight foreign countries this fiscal year and this is the 26th consecutive year in which the company has increased its sales and profits. Quot Only three other companies in the United states can compare favourably to that record Quot he added. He explained that Beatrice foods operates on a decentralized basis and feels that the Quot Success of Beatrice has been through our ability to attract Good management teams Quot for its 400 profit centers. Quot the decision to come to Burnet was not made by Beatrice foods officials but by Stan Krempp and his management team at Aristokrat Quot he said. Krempp told Burnet businessmen and civic leaders that the decision to locate in Burnet Quot has not been an easy Quot our division is very very careful about where we go Quot he said Quot and i can t Tell you How Many areas we looked at before the decision to locate the Aristokrat Plant in Burnet was made because of Quot Good people Good citizenship and because the work ethic still appears to be respected Quot Here. Quot we too intend to be Good citizens Quot Krempp said. Quot i can t Tell you How High the Caliper of people is in Burnet Quot he added. Quot and you la be proud of our Plant. Krempp said the divisions next project would be to interview and hire a Plant manager for the Burnet operation a preferably a we construction texan. As will Martin of Pec said Quot it seems the bigger you Are the More you use the More it hurts the Burnet county bulletin to thursday Lemon bvou04 no. 72 3 sections 32 pages september 22,1977 hotel Mote tax a under consideration Burnet after the City Council had finished dealing with All the Agenda items left Over from last week s meeting during tuesday s continuation of the recessed meeting the Council moved to a special session to discuss the proposed occupancy tax for guests at Burnet hotels and motels and also to discuss ground broken for new Industry officials of Beatrice foods and Aristokrat and Burnet business and civic leaders gathered tuesday morning for groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Aristokrat Plant at Burnet Industrial Park. Prior to the ceremony a number of company officials and Burnet residents got together for breakfast at the Highlander inn. Remodelling City Hall. Stabs Law allows cities to Levy a three to four percent Quot bed tax Quot on any lodging which is rented for less than a month at a time and for More than $2 per night. The Issue had previously been raised at a Council meeting and was met with opposition by hotel and Motel operators who Felt the tax would discourage people from renting their rooms. Aldermen seemed in general agreement that because of the wording of the Law which requires that All Revenue from the tax go to promoting visitors whether by contributions to the arts advertising for the City construction of Park facilities convention centers auditoriums or other projects which would attract travellers the hotel and Motel operators would appreciate that the tax would in the end work to their Benefit. Supt. Bob Wilkin proposed a Quot Ballpark Quot figure of $710,000 Bond Issue to include new Burnet elementary school classrooms. A new elementary school Library larger workroom for teachers aides additional restrooms at the elementary school renovation and air conditioning of the building and a new stadium Quot any time we proposed a Bond Issue Quot said Wilkin Quot every member of this Board needs to be in Complete agreement or the Issue will be his proposal was met with Little discussion among members of the Board although several agreed that elementary school additions and renovations Are needed. Quot Burnet elementary school is just not up to the standards of the other buildings in the system Quot Wilkum pointed out. Quot and sooner or later we re going to get someone killed on that Highway near the stadium Quot pointed out Board president Gene Taylor. Hill residence Lias been referred to Willis environmental engineers by the Burnet City Council. The action was taken tuesday night during the Council meeting at the fire hell. Because of the Elevation of the Hills Home water pressure there has been slightly above 16 lbs., Short of the state requirement of 35 lbs. Mrs Hill has been trying to get the situation improved for Over e year appearing before the aldermen repeatedly since August end meeting with City manager Jack Tippit several times to talk about the subject. After receiving no help from the Council mrs. Hill advised the Texas department of health of the situation and the health department in turn advised the City that the matter should be taken care of lest Burnet lose its Quot state approved Quot status for its water system. The Council also scheduled a workshop with consulting engineers for sept. 29 at 7 30 . In the fire Hall to discuss Long Range plans for the entire Burnet water and sewer system but the Hills were Given special consideration. Alderman Bill Wilcox moved that an Engineer be contracted to find a solution after mayor Howard Benton told mrs. Hill Quot it s always been a bad situation. We re just learning How Benton went on to say Quot we Don t have any answer at this Tippit outlined the various possible solutions which he had arrived at after talking with the Texas department of health. To raise the Hills pressure by Means of a pump would give the residence More pressure but it still would not satisfy state requirements. To raise the pressure by raising the Elevation of the Supply would involve Quot tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars Quot Tippit said. Wilcox compared the water pressure Issue with the county commissioners imbroglio Over dictation equipment saying Quot this thing has gone on and on and Wilcox then moved that the engineering firm be engaged to look into the problem. The motion passed unanimously. Mrs. Hill emphasized the Low pressure Quot it in t very Good when you Don t have enough pressure to turn a sprinkler Quot Tippit pointed out that much of the City suffers from Low water pressure
