On the Lawn of the Burnet county courthouse the Monument of Flowers memorial Day observation is hosted by the veterans of foreign wars Post and ladies auxiliary of Burnet and the disabled american veterans chapter of Kingsland. This year the Monument of Flowers is being dedicated not Only in memory of All who gave their lives but especially in memory of those buried in the Burnet cemetery. Following the service the Flowers will be taken from the Monument and placed on those Graves in the cemetery. He served in the United states air Force from 1964 to 1966 with service in Japan As Squadron commander and was honorable discharged As first lieutenant and has served 10 years in the Usan Reserve. He has served As a first assistant attorney general under Crawford Martin and As chairman of the state Board of insurance when appointed to such position by governor John Connelly. Cowden has been a member of the Board of trustees of Baylor University Baylor Hospital in Dallas san Marcos Baptist Academy and Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco. He has also served As president of the Baylor University sex students association and Baylor Law alumni association Baylor school of Law. Cowden was elected to three but served Only two terms As state representative from Mclennan county from 1963-1966 As a Democrat. He was a Delegate in 1964 and 1968 to the Texas democratic convention and a Delegate in 1968 to the National democratic convention. June 2, at the City office for the purpose of discussing what Steps must be taken in replacing the previous 39 cent tax imposed by the water control and improvement District. Tom Anderlitch financial of visor to the City met last wednesday with the City Council to determine what Steps would be necessary to obtain revenues needed to absorb the 39 cent tax. The Revenue is necessary to offset the City s anticipated yearly Bond debt. The possibility of increasing the minimum water rate and sewer rate from $3.50 to $5 50 and increasing the water rate from 50 cents to 65 cents was offered by City manager Dick Zimmerman. By Burnet chamber of Commerce membership drive planned Burnet the Burnet chamber of Commerce is planning to kick off a member ship drive june 16 with a breakfast for committee workers. Members involved in the membership drive will meet for the breakfast at 7 30 . At the club room of the Tower restaurant.
