One Less Teacher for Burnet ISD in 75 76
Burnet Consolidated Independent School District faced a drop in average daily attendance to a new low, cutting state funds and resulting in one fewer teacher for the 1975 76 year. Elementary and Junior High ran above 90 percent ADA while the High School fell to 88.65 percent. Two resignations were accepted, social studies teacher Robert Harsch citing health and Deborah Northcutt due to family moves. Charles Wareden was named to fill the unexpired board term. John Grissom reported 88.18 percent of current taxes collected and the district prepared a new delinquent tax schedule. A two year contract for Grissom as tax assessor collector was approved, salary $12,000 per year, August 31, 1975 to August 1977.

Drowning victim body sought at Buchanan Lake
A three day search by three patrol boats with grappling hooks failed to locate Joe Mixon of Austin after his boat capsized on Buchanan Lake during high winds. Michael Sharek and Leonard Patterson survived. Patterson reported life jackets aboard. Roger Hensley found Sharek’s body. the TPWD and multiple agencies continued the hunt before search was halted due to low visibility.
