Bus crashes into Hamilton Creek near High Lander Inn

Reported on a Friday night a group of geology students drove a bus into Hamilton Creek at the slab crossing from town to the Highlander Inn. The bus was removed with only the driver's pride damaged. Gasoline sold in Mexico for 1.19 a gallon sparking jokes about burros. Also noted during an eclipse a few moon photos resembling a bouncing ball.

Auto wreck crowds hinder scene safety at incident site

Police contend with onlookers at crash scenes as bystanders slow emergency response and raise the risk of further accidents. Officers warn crowds delay investigators and responders while trying to manage traffic and secure the area.

Fatal accidents claim two drivers on U S Highway 281

A head on collision about four miles south of Marble Falls on Highway 281 South Friday night May 24 killed both drivers. Donald Hall 23 of Santa Barbara California and Preston Johnson 31 of Thrall Texas died at the scene. Investigating officers gave no immediate causal factors.

Beer Election Set For Precinct 1 On June 21

Burnet County Commissioners set June 21 for a voter referendum on off premise beer sales in Justice Precinct No 1. Only residents of the precinct may vote from 8am to 7pm at six polling locations. Campaign managers named for both sides. Also approved: purchase of two 1975 Chevrolet sedans for the sheriff department and deputation of an additional county clerk staff member.

Burnet 8th Grade Commencement Friday Night

The Burnet Intermediate 8th Grade graduation takes place Friday May 30 at 7:30 at Bryce Taylor Auditorium. Burnet High School will award diplomas to 96 graduating seniors at commencement on Saturday May 30 at 8 00 p m in Bryce Taylor Auditorium. Paul Hallmark Jr highest ranking boy offers the invocation Denise Mosley delivers the benediction Patti Wall delivers the valedictory address and awards from multiple clubs and scholarships are presented by school officials and community leaders. Last Day Of School At Burnet CISD In 1965

On Thursday May 29 the Burnet CISD ends its school year for 1605 students, 96 from Burnet High School graduate and move on. Approximately 160 intermediate students have graduation Friday May 29 at 7 30 p m. High school commencement is set for Saturday May 30 at 8 p m. Teachers have work days Friday and Saturday. Report cards go out Saturday May 31 from 9 a m to noon.

Second Body Found In Lake Buchanan

The Llano County Sheriff's Office recovered the remains of Joseph Mixon of Austin from Lake Buchanan after two Odessa fishermen found the body about 10 miles north of the dam. Justice Dana Saucier and deputies joined the scene and the body was taken to Waldrop Funeral Home.

Wallace Riddell Burnet County Sheriff was dismissed as a defendant in a civil rights case in U S District Court Austin after testimony on Thursday The suit names him and two former deputies Clint Dodd and Jack Anderson They face claims by Joe Ellett Morris McGuire and Jane McGuire alleging injuries during an arrest at the Hi Way Grill in 1972 Plaintiffs seek 10 000 each in damages and expenses Judge Jack Roberts has postponed ruling on the remaining defendants and testimony is under advisement
