Use of Old Bertram School Discussed

Marble Falls School Board faces tax rate dispute over 1976 budget

The Marble Falls district kept the 1975 tax rate at $1.30 per $100 value after a heated board session. Superintendent Murchison urged maintaining the rate, while President Edwards and others pressed for a preliminary budget before setting taxes. The board also debated purchasing a new 72 passenger bus versus refurbishing older buses.

County Tax Office Extends Saturday Hours in Burnet

Burnet County Tax Assessor-Collector Brownlee Feild announces the Burnet County Courthouse tax office will stay open Saturdays in March from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The extended hours cover all standard services on the three remaining Saturdays to help workers and weekend shoppers.

Rain Relief Edges Drought in Burnet County

Burnet County received 1.35 inches of rain over the weekend easing drought conditions. Ray Cagle notes moisture will help grasses and bluebonnets but two to three more inches are needed to restore conditions. Texas rain in Panhandle deemed too little and too late for wheat losses.

Accidental Death Ruled In Burnet Man's Dismissal

John Vaughn Morris Sr. 60 died after tripping with a 16 gauge shotgun near his Council Creek home. Judge Francis Farquhar ruled accidental death citing a discharge as he fell about five feet from his house. Neighbors reported hearing the blast around 6 am. Morris, employed by Graphite Mine Corp, lived in Burnet County eight years and is survived by wife Myra, children and extended family. Funeral and burial were held at Clements Chapel with Valley Lodge A F and A M conducting graveside rites.
