Drought Bets On Rain as Farmers Beg for Moisture

In a prolonged drought farmers face scarcities as three inches of rainfall fall short of the 12 inch norm. Bobby Schmidt and T L Fancher of USDA agencies warn wheat and pasture lands suffer, with some ranchers plowing under small grains. The drought also hits pasture grasses hardest, alarming local farm staff and ranchers expecting relief.

Burnet Residents Headed to Washington for Bicentennial Events

Fifteen Burnet residents join West Texas Chamber of Commerce members in Washington for a Monday briefing with William Baroody Jr. and meetings with Congressmen and Senators. A dinner with Texas delegation follows at the Sheraton-Carlton, and Tuesday the group will present Bicentennial flags to 12 West Texas lawmakers at the Rayburn Building. Participants include John Hoover and Modena Curington among others.

PTA Holds Last Drug Program in Burnet Bertram

The Burnet PTAs final drug program is scheduled for Thursday March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bertram Elementary School cafe. Speaker Bill Cottrell minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bertram will present. Cottrell, 47, holds a science degree in education from TCU and a master's in psychological counseling from Memphis State. He formerly directed the Children and Adolescent Center at Western State Hospital in Tennessee and now serves as a part time counselor at Burnet Mental Health Center while serving on the Burnet MH MR advisory board. He has worked with the Glasser Institute for Reality Therapy in California and was among the first certified as a reality therapist.

Burglars Take CB Radios From Burnet Store

Burglars broke into the Burnet Western Auto Store between 1 30 and 7 40 am Thursday and stole over 900 dollars in CB radios and accessory gear along with shipping Boxes. Police chief Jess Madden suspects the loot will be sold through a fence in another city. They entered by throwing a brick through the glass front door and left with the brick.

Booster Club sponsors Mr Superinvisible at Oscar Theatre

The Booster Club sponsors a one night showing of the G rated film Mr Superinvisible starring Dean Jones. The event is set for Tuesday March 16 at the Oscar Theatre in downtown Burnet.

Marble Falls group backs Nelson Lewis for School Board Place 7

The Burnet County Good Government League endorsed Nelson Lewis for Place 7 on the Marble Falls School Board at a Thursday gathering. Lewis, urged by a nine member panel, praised by 250 attendees, cited focus on education quality and cost plus curriculum review as priorities.
