This week marks the third anniversary of a tornado that hit Burnet. The disaster left 60 homes destroyed and caused about 5 million dollars in damage. Further details appear on page three.
Local school board in Marble Falls schedules a Saturday meeting on March 13 1976 to discuss district policies and budget items. Board members and district officials are expected to attend.
Bertram minister and Burnet Mental Health Center counselor Bill Cottrell told a Burnet PTA group at Bertram Elementary School that drug abuse stems from social maladjustment and personal problems begun long before usage. He contrasted abusers and users and urged factual education and involvement to prevent abuse.
Burnet council members tackled a pay issue over an LCRA bill for 17428.16 and heard Mrs. Mildred Nored request a 1000 dollar library donation for books. She cited a state program that raises annual quotas and noted tightening finances due to fewer book donations this year.
Burnet County Democratic Organization hosts a nonpartisan Meet the Candidate Night at the Burnet County Fair Barn on Thursday March 18 at 7 p.m. Attendees include candidates for state, county and local offices from both parties and school boards. Attendees include Mrs. Bentsen, Bill Baker and family for Carter, plus numerous local candidates.
Texas Education Agency reviewed 1975 property values for Marble Falls ISD. Total district assessed value on the 1975 rolls is 68,253,990 with elderly exemptions reducing net value to 66,418,770. At a 1.30 tax rate the levy is 863,444.01. Storey explains typical home and rural land valuations and provides examples of land prices and farm acreage assessments used to compute the totals.
