Federal Funding Not Going Away

Burnet heard from two Austin representatives of CMH the firm aiding cities to access federal and state grants. Bob Honts Travis County Commissioner and Gene Higgins outlined a statewide program helping small and medium cities write grant proposals and navigate changing regulations. The firm claims its Austin and national offices enable it to recover about ten times more funds for the cities it represents.

Firm offers grants help to cities for federal funds

A consultant outlined how cities can secure federal funds through his firm, citing Round Rock as a six year client and noting benefits in industrial development water sewer upgrades and parks. He compared city grant work to tax filing and said fees of 800 to 900 dollars monthly with a day cancel clause yield net gains for clients. The council took no action as the item wasn’t on the agenda while considering a Burnet Industrial Park annexation petition.

Burnet 4-H Dress Revue Honors 28 Exhibitors

The Burnet County 4-H Dress Revue was held June 23 at Burnet High School with 28 exhibitors across Sub-Junior Junior and Senior divisions. Awards were given by Mrs. G W Wood from the Home Demonstration Council, with top honors going to Debbie Haynes in Sub-Juniors and Mary Foss and Brenda Foss in Juniors and Seniors.<S>

Marble Falls Honored In State Beautification Awards

West Texas cities led by Marble Falls, Crane, Kerrville and Marble Falls won four of six Beautify Texas Council awards for community beautification property improvement and economic development. Awards recognized by population category at the council’s El Paso meeting on June 22.

Parade Entries Invited for Burnet County Fair Rodeo

The Burnet County Fair and Rodeo Association invites organizations businesses clubs and individuals to enter the July 28 parade at 5 p.m. judging at 3:30 p.m. Entries due by July 25. Parade starts Burnet Jr. High School with Methodist Church dressing facilities and pre parade refreshments.
