The Fourth of July will close many Burnet County stores and offices including Dilbeck's Western Auto Haynes' Pharmacy HEB Super Save Sonny's Minimax Lakeland United Super in Marble Falls and City of Burnet and Burnet County offices. Gibson's and most small convenience stores will stay open. The BULLETIN will not publish its Monday edition July 4.
BARNET District Judge D W Hammond was elected a Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation announced by Chairman J Harris Morgan of Greenville. Hammond joined about 160 new Fellows named at the State Bar of Texas convention in Houston. The Foundation funds continuing legal education programs benefiting nearly 1 000 Texas lawyers statewide since its 1965 establishment.
Ralph Edward Phillips of Tow had been missing since November 15 last year. His decomposed body was found in a submerged pickup near the shore of Lake Buchanan by two men while a seven month search concluded. Authorities say foul play is ruled out but autopsy results will determine final ruling.
Texas Representative Stan Schlueter will speak to the Independent Cattlemen's Association at 8 p.m. in the Burnet County courthouse District Courtroom. He will discuss the upcoming Texas legislative special session and the proposed state inheritance tax revision urged by ICA members.
Burnet area police DPS and Parks and Wildlife Rangers gear up for Independence Day. Death watch shifts run Friday 6 p.m. to Monday 11 59 p.m. with full staffing to monitor traffic and handle crowds at Inks Lake State Park near capacity.
Bluebonnet Publishing president George W. Puckett's "By George" column earned second place in Division IV at the Texas Press Association awards in Galveston. The Burnet Bulletin tied for fifth in its division as 43 papers competed. the Highlander placed third in Division II.
Kingsland gears up for the Eighth Aqua-Boom July 1 4 with two dances two parades a large fireworks display and a barbecue. Local leaders report everything under control as crowds plan to attend and parade entries close today with judges named for seven prize categories.
