At a special Burnet meeting the board presented two state financed options for kindergarten. One provides 180 days on a half day schedule from 12 10 p m to 3 10 p m with bus transportation for eligible riders. The other lets families pay 400 dollars for the remaining 90 days of the full 180 day plan.
Jane Richardson of the Capitol Area Planning Commission outlined multiple programs at the County Commissioners Meeting. The Green Thumb Program, backed by the Department of Labor and Manpower and the Texas Farmers Union, would create eight jobs in Burnet County for older citizens to work in social service roles.
Burnet DPS appeals to public to locate a white male driver of a red and white pickup who fled after Rear ending a 1973 motorcycle carrying William Lee Phelps and Peggy Blend. Both injured. Blend moved to Austin hospital with serious injuries.
A two car crash at the Highway 281 29 intersection in Burnet caused about 1500 in damages to a traffic light and other structures. Barbara Rothman and Raymond Steen were among the injured with Mrs Steen in good condition and Mr Steen in intensive care.
Continental Telephone customers in Buchanan Dam will gain Direct Distance Dialing on Sunday August 1. Larry Tally notes final testing this week. Single line service records outgoing numbers and times calls. multi party may get operator help after dialing. If a wrong number is dialed there is no charge if reported promptly.
Senator Lloyd Bentsen will be in Burnet Saturday morning to meet residents and attend the Burnet County Fair. He will host a 9 p.m. coffee at the Highlander Inn, with changes in plans from Marble Falls to talk to visitors. He has traveled across Texas since the May primary, covering about 20 000 miles in 57 days and stopping in 85 communities.
The Texas Old Time Fiddlers Association Convention and State Contest will bring 50 plus entrants to Barnet on August 14 with top prize of 500 dollars and 2,000 dollars in awards. Notables include Terry Morris, Norman Soloman, Sleepy Johnson, Bill Gilbert, and others as crowds exceed 10,000. The event features games, crafts, flea market, antique car show, and Burnet’s world famous barbecue brisket.
