Crowds fill the square for the 10th annual Burnet County Fair and Rodeo Parade despite heat. Winners include Best Decorations, Best Burnet County Float, Best Dressed Cowgirl and Cowboy, Best Out of Town Float, and top floats from local clubs and chambers. Complimentary honors given to local services and groups.

Missy Rippy Crowned 1976 Burnet County Fair Queen

A large crowd witnessed Missy Rippy of Smithwick crowned Burnet Fair Queen at Bryce A. Taylor Auditorium. She also holds the Marble Falls Rodeo Queen title, with Donna Milsap and Teri Escamilla as runners-up. The event featured guest speaker Martin Steger, square dancing by Hill Country Road Runners, and an organ drawing won by Barbara Harsch.

Trial Date Set in Montoya Case in Burnet

33rd Dist Judge Jack B. Miller set October 18 for Greg Montoya trial after a venue change from Austin. Montoya faced theft charges for using state funds to pay personal employees. pretrial motions due by September 1, 1976. The defense requested the move due to publicity. Montoya is from Elsa, Hidalgo County.

Ban on CAPCO funding of Meals on Wheels noted

Burnet County Bulletin reports the CAPCO program does not fund Meals on Wheels. The Meals on Wheels effort is sponsored by Burnet Neighborhood Center volunteers and supported by local donations. A related story in this week’s bulletin covers the program further.

Parents Rally For Kindergarten Funding Change

Parents voice concerns over a proposed 90 day funding plan for kindergarten arguing that payment should be eliminated, state funding should cover costs, and half day sessions could save money while still serving children. They note teachers could be supported if districts can manage finances and urge free access for all students.
