Grass Fires Strain Burnet County Firefighters

Four grass fires broke out in Burnet County within an hour on Monday afternoon. The Old Mormon Mill Road and Old Bertram Road incidents burned hundreds of acres as volunteers and Lampasas units fought the flames with shovels, brush switches, and water wagons before noon and into the mid afternoon. Marble Falls and deputies assisted as the blazes moved quickly under a brisk northwest wind.

Taxpayers Group Plans To Endorse Three Candidates

Burnet County Good Government League formed by Marble Falls taxpayers schedules a 7 p.m. meeting at the Burnet Auction Barn on Highway 1431 to consider endorsing three candidates for the spring school board elections. Steering committee members will report after interviewing incumbents, candidates, and prospects.

Eight Major Crimes Reported In Burnet County January

Burnet County Sheriff's Department filed the January Uniform Crime Report with eight major crimes in the county. Deputy Rubye Neeck said the monthly statistics are forwarded to the FBI. Incidents include one armed robbery, three burglaries, and four larcenies involving livestock, autos, and vending machines. An armed robbery on January 19 led to two Fort Hood soldiers’ arrest for robbing C. D. Vann at a Lampasas carry-out. Burglaries included Burnham Brothers Sporting Goods in Marble Falls, Shepperd Medical Clinic on Highway 29, and the Robert Hood residence in Marble Falls with a stolen antique stove.
