Electricity eases farm chores and provides warm water for livestock during winter. Tests show it's economical with about 70 kilowatt hours monthly or $1.40 for two cents per kilowatt. Tips include small tanks under 150 gallons, a float, insulation, a top baffle, and placing the unit inside a barn or shed to boost drinking and production.
A Agriculture Department survey of 15 000 farms shows four times as many injuries to men and boys aged 14 to 65 than to women and girls. Falls cause most injuries, especially on steps and from vehicles. Ages 25 to 45 are the most dangerous.
Disease and injury common to stabled horses arise from poor stable conditions. Brittle and spongy hoofs thrush and foot canker are cited. Clean dry floors and monthly trimming of hooves are recommended precautions to prevent crippling problems.

He warns against speculative gains from buying land or livestock when prices are high, citing postwar crashes that ruined many farmers. He notes confidence that the current era should avoid repeating such losses.
