Electricity Gives Water To Livestock In Winter

Electricity eases farm chores and provides warm water for livestock during winter. Tests show it's economical with about 70 kilowatt hours monthly or $1.40 for two cents per kilowatt. Farm Accidents Fatal to Men and Boys Share

A Agriculture Department survey of 15 000 farms shows four times as many injuries to men and boys aged 14 to 65 than to women and girls. Falls cause most injuries, especially on steps and from vehicles. Ages 25 to 45 are the most dangerous.

Horses Warned on Foot Care During Stable Period

A Utah Agricultural College survey shows nearly one third of turkeys hatched die during the growing period. Paratyphoid infection pullorum disease and infectious sinusitis account for 61 percent of losses, often transmitted via the egg. Growers should buy healthy poults from reputable hatcheries and maintain strict sanitary practices, housing and separation of weak birds to prevent outbreak.

Protect fruit trees from rabbits in winter orchard

County extension director C. E. Judd warns rabbits and mice threaten orchards in winter. Advice includes using Harold Gunderson’s rabbit repellent on trunks and lower branches, spraying thinner mixes, and using barriers. Mice may be poisoned with boards over runways. Also notes investors should hold U S Savings Bonds as liquid assets for farmers.
