Machinery and other equipment for pasteurizing milk are being received and installed by the Lilly Creamery Company. The plant will soon offer Grade A pasteurized milk and many other products made from pasteurized milk and cream.

Dr J C Dolley reports the general banking situation improved through August. Short term rates in New York money markets stayed low, fewer bank failures occurred, currency in circulation fell substantially, and gold flowed in at a rapid pace. From July 23 to September 8 the adjusted daily currency volume decreased by 128 million dollars, offsetting about 26 percent of the prior rise.
Detroit, Sept 20. Mrs. Sarah Jane Garner, 81, died at her home at 12:25 pm. Funeral tentatively set for tomorrow. Body to be placed in family vault beside husband John Nance Garner Sr. (d. 1919) and those of her son and daughter. three sons and two daughters survive with other relatives.
Detroit September 20. Speaker John N Garner received a telegram from Gov Franklin D Roosevelt expressing deep regret over the critical illness of Garner's mother. The Spokane message said he hoped she may be spared for many years. Last night her heart action grew feeble and her pulse could not be detected at times. She rallied briefly and survived the night.
A Democratic national ticket campaign in the Sixth Congressional District will be run by Burris C. Jackson of Hillsboro as chairman joined by F. H. Kirby of Groesbeck S. E. Dossett of Cameron Mrs J L Brock of Bryan and Mrs R B Mitchell of Corsicana The group backs the nomination effort led by Roy Miller and Senator Margie Neal who say the committee will mobilize the district to deliver the largest Democratic vote ever for John Garner with the size of the majority as the only question.
The Travis Elementary student body elected yell leaders for the new year during a Monday assembly. Principal J. Vernon Brown announced Miss June Coehrah as chief while Henry Fulgham and Wallis Price were chosen as assistants.
H E Randolph, longtime Texas A and M Extension Service bookkeeper, was relieved of duty after confessing to signing agents’ names to checks totaling about 1000 dollars to collect without authorization. He borrowed from a private loan fund run by Extension staff. no college loss expected, though the volunteer loan association may suffer. Randolph had served as secretary treasurer and was prominent in Bryan and Brazos county civic groups.
Jesse Sharp died at a local hospital Sunday after a Saturday shooting at his wife Rachel Sharp’s home. Rachel, ill at her mother Ida Rice’s Bryan residence, stayed there as police say she struck Sharp while he tried to enter. The grand jury will review the case with no witnesses reported.
At a Sunday meeting of the Brazos County Free Fair board a 32 by 50 poultry building was let for immediate construction to house poultry exhibits October 20 through 22. The plan also provides swine pens with prizes later, plus an art department led by Mrs. George E. Adams and John Francis Shows offering three daily free acts. Community plays by rural groups will highlight each evening, with booth space for commercial displays fully booked.

More than 500 boys from Texas and beyond started the class of 1936 at Texas A. and M. College. Freshmen were organized into sections, registered, and attended lectures as part of the week’s program. Upperclass registration continues Wednesday, with classes starting Thursday morning. President Walton addressed the newcomers, urging focus, perseverance, and concentration to succeed in college. Austin dispatch reports the legislature passed a bill to curb oil theft in East Texas oil fields. The Senate approved house amendments 25 to 1 after defeating a motion for free conference. The measure broadens theft definitions to cover operators taking oil from land or royalty owners or lease partners.
Last week showed steady temperatures with highs from 91 to 97 and lows from 67 to 71. No rainfall was recorded and the peak was 97 on Saturday while the low was 67 on Wednesday.
Henry W. Stanley, merchandising expert of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, told a Bryan audience Monday night that salesmen must know themselves and exercise control. He asserted that all are salesmen and cited a recent survey on merchandising factors and problems shaping the new era.
Funeral services were held in Madisonville for M P Holleman Sr fatally injured in Houston when struck by a car. Dr B F Thorne led the home service with interment in Madisonville cemetery. Attendees from Bryan College Station included Daniel Russell Fred Hale R M Sherwood F Schmidt W H Holzman C B Godbey and others.
Following a special session action the 42nd Legislature set aside one cent of the four cent gas tax to relieve counties in bond voting for state highways. County commissioners cut the county tax by 30 cents per $100, lowering to $1.00. Taxpayers save about $27,000 this year, with total savings around $60,000 including internal economies. Budget for the year is $135,944.50, to be reduced by the savings. Last year county cost was $161,372.78. County Judge A S McSwain noted only 6 cents will be collected on Series A highway bonds. Series B bonds and the $500,000 refunding bonds voted in 1929 will yield nothing. Further slight reductions may come next year after state takes over certain bonds.
The Bryan school system reports rising enrollment as the fall term enters its second week. Third and fourth grades in Travis and Bowie schools are crowded. principals Bethany and Brown prepared for the surge. Superintendent H L Durham notes Stephen F Austin High School senior class exceeds 60, with more to enroll, while the Negro High School senior class stands at 22. Total Bryan public school enrollment for the year awaits late-week figures.
The Census Bureau reports the cotton spinning industry operated at 72.4 percent capacity on a single shift in August, up from 51.7 percent in July but down from 81.8 percent in August of last year.
