LUBBOCK Sept 13. The Texas state Democratic convention convened to nominate a woman who once led the state for governor. Miriam A. Ferguson received enthusiastic cheers when her name was announced. Charles McDonald called her “our next governor” prompting delegates to cheer and hats to fly. Governor Sterling attended but did not enter the hall. Temporary officers were chosen and the session recessed until afternoon.

After weeks of planning and with help from Ryan leaders, the Bryan Federation of Young Peoples Societies announces an indoor baseball tournament in October at Sue Haswell Memorial Park. Teams must register and pay a $1 entrance fee by noon Tuesday September 20, Lamar Williams, Federation Measurer, says this kickoff marks the start of a series of recreational programs for the winter season.

Funeral Service Held for Hearne Man W A Mickler
Funeral services were conducted Monday at MecCulloch-Dansby funeral chapel in Bryan for W A Mickler aged 70 who died Saturday night at his daughter Mrs A R Scott’s home in Hearne Rev Chas E Bullock pastor of the First Baptist church Hearne officiated the service assisted by mourners including the deceased’s daughter and many friends. The body was sent from Hearne to Bryan for interment at Bryan city cemetery per a telegram from Ted C Wilson of Denver a grandson of the deceased.
