Mr. and Mrs. George Foster plan a new Colonial cottage home on River Oaks plantation near the Brazos River nine miles west of Bryan. Construction has continued about three weeks. Keon Maniloff has recovered from appendicitis and moved from Bryan Hospital to his parents home on East Ursuline Street. T. H. Huettig of Brenham, a Gulf Refining Company territory salesman, visited Bryan today with local agent J. C. Goldsmith.
City officials announce the lighted highway beacon at Black Jack, part of a US government lighted highway project aiding navigators. Hearne utilities will furnish power and the line to the beacon began Monday with completion rushed. Electric current will serve residents along the route from Waco to Galveston where twelve beacons will light at sunset and burn through the night.
W L Powers, assistant to the county agent in Shelby County, left for Center carrying 159 certificates for 1933 and 270 for 1934 production for Shelby County cotton growers. He visited with his family during the trip to Bryan and College Station.
Crown Point Indiana October 30 Deputy Attorney General Ray Barce said he and Ernest Blunk fingerprint expert and Warden Lewis Baker were taken into custody for questioning in the Dillinger escape from the Crown Point jail on March 3. Barce indicated more arrests were expected but gave no details. Governor McNutt had recently forecast an exposé of the escape.
The American Legion Free Fair opens Wednesday November 7 at 7 50 p m with a pageant and style show. Communities and participants include Tabor Steele's Store Milli can Wixon Prospect Harvey Allen Farm and King's Highway with Miss Jimmie Stroud as queen and Edward Novosad as king. Local merchants entering the style show include K Walens Inc Manueloff Smart Shop Sam Kaplan Lobello Style Shop Bullock and Akin and Real Hat Shop.
Mr and Mrs A F Fox have bought a corner lot on Haswell drive opposite the A W Buchanan homestead and will begin building a new house. The contract for the residence will be let next week, say the Foxes.
Bryan and Brazos county educators attended the District 16 meeting in Madisonville on Saturday with several placing on the program. Notables include Mrs. W. T. Kelly Kurten school Prof. G. B. Wilcox Dr. T. D. Brooks and Prof. W. L. Hughes. Additional participants were Mrs. P. H. Tardy Mrs. W. L. Powers Mrs. W. E. Neeley Christine Liechte Wesa Weddington Willie Mae Moore Mae Stevner Wilson A. M. Scarborough and the Bunting pair S. M Brown also traveled this morning.
About 100 delegates attended the seventh annual convention of the 8th district Business and Professional Women's clubs held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Bryan. Bryan College Station club hosted with Miss Kate Adelle Hill of Bryan named to a past officer role and Mrs. John Maxwell of Waco elected district director. Delegates from Belton Bryan Cameron Marlin Temple and Waco attended the two day session featuring a banquet in the crystal ballroom and formal officer elections.
The courthouse group marked Justice J T McGee Mor day with a fine shirt and tie, praising his 76th birthday. The justice expressed appreciation for the wishes and kindly thoughts for many more anniversaries.
Belton Texas October 30 Misses Dorothy Adair and Zula Holland of Bryan and College Station were initiated into the Woman's Sports Association at Mary Hardin-Baylor. Membership reflects activity and interest in all sports. W. S. Av is a active campus organization and the official center of sports life. Adair is daughter of Mrs. B. C. Jones. Holland is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Holland. Both are freshmen this year.
The aged father of Mrs. R. H. Bush, E. W. Wellborn, is confined to Bryan hospital with a broken hip after a fall in his daughter's yard on Wednesday. He has been living with Mr. and Mrs. Bush and is described as making his home in Bryan.
A revival began Saturday at Minter Springs two miles west of Wellborn with Rev. J P Brown preaching. Two services were held Sunday and daily services through the week will be at 7 30 pm. Everyone is invited.
Angelina Barak aged 37 years 5 months 28 days wife of Frank Barak died Monday at 4 pm after brief illness. Survived by husband three sons four daughters Charles Frank Joe Annie Ellis Helen Mary Barak, parents Mr and Mrs Vincent Luza two brothers and one sister Joe Luza Vincent Luza Jr Mary Zak all of Bryan. Service held at home then St Joseph Catholic Church with Rt Rev J B Gleissner and burial Mount Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers Frank Matus Antone Turek Herman Wehrman J J Dink F Puts Martin Merka.
A. J. Wagner aged 79 and a half, longtime Bryan dry goods merchant, died Monday night after months of illness at his home near Parker Avenue and West 25th Street. Born in Arkansas in 1885, he lived in New York and Calvert before settling in Bryan twenty years ago. Survived by his widow and three daughters Lillian Wagner of Houston, Mrs. J. H. Hosier of New York City, and Marjorie Wagner.
Bryan fans plan a special train to the Bryan Corsicana football game on Friday night November 16 led by Tom Sweeney. Minimum 75 tickets needed, with round trip fare 2.22 dollars. Train departs Bryan 1 50 p m arrives Corsicana 4 p m, returns about 1 a m.
County notices remind voters that absentee ballots must be cast by November 3 at the County Clerk's office Clyde Goes To date. Seven ballots have been cast so far, showing modest interest or a small number of residents planning to be away on election day November 6.
Four Negroes convicted of felonies in the September district court term were sent to state prison at Huntsville. Sheriff J. H. Reed and Constable Horace Reed accompanied Monroe Bass to serve two years for attempted burglary, Chester Martin received one year for bootlegging, John Holly was sentenced to five years for burglary, and Howard Hampton got one five year term plus three two year terms in four burglary cases. The two year sentences run concurrently with the five year term.
Dr W Hirdrew and H P Black of First Baptist Bryan joined Rev J E Bowlet of Anderson as fraternal messengers from Creath Brazos to the Navasota River Association meeting at Bedias. They discussed merging the long separated Navasota River Association with Creath Brazos.
D Mike Will Holmes and Jim Darwin were named to the Brazos County jury commission by Judge W C Davis Friday morning. They will select property holders to serve as grand and petit jurors for the February term of court.
Cotton ginned in Brazos County for the 1934 crop through October 18 reached 10,113 bales, down from 16,343 bales ginned by the same date in 1933.
Bryan youth Gene Carroll tried to fight off police at Forrest Field during the Bryan Hempstead football game Friday night. Officers subdued him after he became belligerent and he was jailed after injuring Officers Floy LeFevre and Joe Howard. County attorney filed charges of drunkenness and assault in J T McGee's court.
Washington October 30 The bureau of public roads plans to appeal informally for a quicker construction program over slow state use of federal highway grants Texas reports over 12 million dollars unobligated and Oklahoma 4.5 million dollars remain available for projects as examples.
The College Community Chest Drive at A M College begins in early November. Budget for 1934 35 covers Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce Local Charity American Red Cross College Y M C A Student Welfare Salvation Army College P T A and Contingent. Total budget reduced to 1940 due to salary cuts and higher living costs for college staff. Contributions are voluntary though staff are urged to give at least one day’s pay. Departments should complete solicitations in the first week and report promptly to end the campaign quickly.
Announcements for rehearsals for those in the Court of the Lone Star in the pageant at the annual rodeo and pageant have been made by Mrs W A Orth in charge. Rehearsals will be in the animal husbandry pavilion where the pageant will be held. Princesses maids and attendants rehearse Thursday at 5 pm and duchesses escorts rehearse Friday at 5 pm.
Officers for the coming year were elected by Kings Highway 4-H members at last Monday's meeting. Millie Curik was chosen president, Aline Stroud vice president, Irene Bush secretary, Jimmie Stroud reporter, Aline Stroud song leader, and Jimmie Stroud yell leader.
The second place red ribbon at the state fair contest for negro farmers went to Brazos county. H. K. Hornsbury and Laurelia M. Holden accepted the ribbon. Brazos was among 29 counties exhibiting. The score credited the Brazos exhibit with 880 of 1000 possible points. Lee County won first place. Negro farmers aim to make their Brazos county Free Legion fair exhibit outstanding.
Dr. C. W. Brown of the U S Department of Agriculture will leave November 1 to take charge of tick eradication in the Beaumont area. Before starting, he will take a two week leave to visit Iowa, his home and where he owns farm land. Brown has led tick work in Brazos county, where the area has been tick free since last May.
The Steep Hollow Cemetery Association will hold its annual session at Steep Hollow church on Sunday, Nov. 11. W. H. Buchanan, president, and Mrs. J. W. Hicks, secretary, invite all members, friends, and former residents to attend. A morning session at 10 oclock features a speaker and music, followed by a basket dinner and a program of patriotic readings, sacred music, and informal talks.

At the Carnegie library last Saturday morning Brazos farmers elected regular delegates E. A. Peters H. C. Seale and Mrs Sam Pete to the state wide farmers meeting in Dallas December 3 6 Alternates named were Milton Sims Joe Locke Mrs C G Hempfling John O D Rogers Ward Mooring and Mrs W C Raines R H Bush Extension director urged farmers to guide agricultural policy and oppose propaganda against the Agricultural Adjustment Act and Bankhead Act noting their help to cotton farmers and urging local organization to spread factual information.
East Liverpool Ohio October 30 Ralph Lane and his four children and their housekeeper were burned to death when a fire destroyed their rural residence before daybreak. The children Ralph Lane Jr 12 Dorothy 10 Harry 8 Carl 7 and housekeeper Miss Anna Applegate perished in the blaze.
Leonard Wheeless, manager of Home Furniture Store, was seriously injured Thursday night near Cedar Creek bridge after colliding with an unlit wagon and another car. X rays showed a cracked pelvis and spinal injury. he is at Wilkerson Memorial Clinic and reported improving. His companion Lester Moore escaped injury.
A mass meeting will be held Monday night at 8 o clock at the court house to discuss proposed state constitutional amendments. Judge A S McSwain calls the meeting with one speaker per proposal limited to five minutes, followed by questions. Announcement of speakers will come later. organizers hope for wide attendance and especially invite women voters.
Edge resident Tom Matejka regained consciousness at Bryan hospital Monday evening after being found on the highway with skull fracture and other injuries. Authorities probe whether he fell from a weeknight return from a Whelock dance or was attacked as they investigate the incident.
