The Eagle announces a broad Bry an trade territory campaign inviting readers to solicit subscriptions to the Daily and Weekly Eagle. Prizes include two cars a Master Six Chevrolet Coach and a Plymouth Special Six two door, a Europe trip with expenses paid and $750 in furniture. Top voter earns choice of prize or cash equivalent, with many other cash options. Participants who stay active join a salesmanship club.
A string of Bryan trades and visitors is noted with residents from Kurten and nearby towns stopping in Bryan this morning. Notables include Mr. and Mrs. Ek A Keller, J J Gilpin, Charlie Note, Jack Depuma, and Adolph Kopetsky with daughter Mary among those visiting or trading in Bryan.
The Morro Castle tragedy killed 84 passengers and 20 crew. The Steamboat Inspection Service cited rapid fire spread, delayed alarms, poor exit markings, and slow SOS dispatches as causes, with no evidence of incendiarism. Dickerson N. Hoover briefed Secretary Roper that the exact fire cause could not be determined.
Austin November 7 Senator Nat Patton of Crockett Houston county said he will resign November 11 to take effect January 1 allowing the governor to call a special election to fill the vacancy before the next session. Patton, a holdover senator, has two years left in his term whose district includes Houston Leon Madison Grimes Montgomery Walker Polk San Jacinto and Trinity counties. Representative Gordon Burns of Huntsville will run to succeed Patton.
Albin Zak Jr of Bryan was among the winners of gold medals in a Sears Roebuck national baby beauty contest. About 100000 entries from across the United States and possessions competed. Earlier, Mr and Mrs C C Edge received a medal for their baby Clifford Jr.
At a Tuesday meeting the Campus Little Theatre Club of Texas A and M discussed sponsoring a spring drama contest for junior college groups. Dr S S Morwan was authorized to appoint a committee to study the plan and report at the November 27 gathering.
Hundreds prepare the largest exhibit displays for Brazos County Fair opening at 6 p m with a style show at 7 30 p m and a pageant featuring county school children under Mrs Griff Cloud. The four day program includes band concerts, poultry exhibits, 4 H clubs, and nightly aerial shows by Bill Hames Shows.
Berlin reports that finance minister Hjalmar Schacht announced a limit on U S automobile imports. Only two cars per American company may enter Germany each year through clearing arrangements with third countries.
D L Wilson secretary of the Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce spoke to Allen Academy students on Business Honor and the New Deal. He urged ethical conduct and discussed opportunities for young men under the program, noting the Allen band’s Houston trip and strong reception.
Light turnout noted in Tuesday’s general election with slow returns. Democrats led, Wagoner won few votes, and all proposed constitutional amendments failed statewide though the abolition of the fee system and simplified county government drew more support. Official canvass will provide full totals.
Mrs Anna Hill, living with Mr and Mrs J Kelly Franklow in Beason addition, fell from the gallery at the Franklow residence this morning. She was taken to a Bryan clinic where X rays revealed a fractured right hip and a fractured right arm.

Oscar H. Robson known as Buster was seized by Justice Department agents in Phoenix on authorization of the U S attorney. He is charged with sending extortion letters via the mails to a rancher’s daughter six year old June Robles, the handwriting experts identify as his. A federal complaint was filed.
Bryan merchants and philanthropists are alerted to Tyler Haswell’s illness. Dr J R Lay and Wynne Lay of Houston visited Bryan this afternoon to assess the condition, with the patient expected to remain under observation for several days.
Bryan doctors gathered at city hall Tuesday evening and heard Dr. T. J. Crow secretary of the State Board of Medical Examiners discuss the board’s work. He cited efforts against fakers and quacks and noted an exhibit at the American Legion Free Fair.
R. M. Hubbard, noted banker and farmer from New Boston, died Tuesday night at his home of a heart attack. He addressed farmers at the New Boston courthouse earlier that evening. Funeral is set for Thursday at 3 p.m. in New Boston. Survived by his wife.
East Texas will stay fair with slightly warmer temperatures in the northwest tonight. Thursday is expected to be fair with continued pleasant conditions.

The 48th Legislature faced a point of order today questioning its authority to continue in session with the present personnel. Rep. L. Alsup of Carthage raised the issue in Austin.

Nelson Fuller has accepted a position as United Press correspondent in Bryan and vicinity. He is employed at College Station in the State Cotton Allotment Board offices and earned a bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Texas last August.
