Mrs. Sidney Burrows and Mrs. A. J. Dossett will drive to Bryan Wednesday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Howell. They will join Rev. Everett H. Jones of Waco as guest speaker at the Bryan Woman’s club that afternoon. Miss Betsy Searcy returned Monday from Austin where she stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haley.

Tom Conway an attorney from Waco and native of Brazos County has been elected president of the Mc Lennan County Bar Association succeeding Sam Clayton after a decade in the post. Clayton becomes president emeritus for life. Conway grew up in Steep Hollow and Bryan and studied at Allen Academy and the University of Texas Law School.
Leo T. Crowley chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation told the American Bankers Association convention that the government will aid but not run banks. He said the current $5,000 deposit insurance limit should not be raised, addressing bankers worried about unlimited coverage.
An Internal Revenue Department representative informed County Agent C. L. Benson that ginners may hold cotton until after October while awaiting certificates for 1933 and 1934 producers. All held cotton will be reported to the Revenue Department. Ginners must show both certificate series when multiple series are used on a bale, such as landlord and tenant pro rata certificates.
Norton R. Burk halter sues T. English et al for 65 000 alleging damages. District court approved a 5 500 settlement Thursday under Judge W C Davis. Henderson and Hoyle represented the plaintiff while Armstrong and Armstrong spoke for the defendants.
A 57 pound wolf was captured near Wellborn in Brazos county as part of a stock destruction campaign. Louis Parnell of Five Points, Robertson county, trapped the animal with hire from local Wellborn residents.
Rev. N. D. Timmerman pastor of Cameron's First Baptist church spoke at the creath Brazes Association annual meeting in this city on Thursday evening at 7 30. He had recently returned from Europe where he attended the Baptist World Alliance.
J C Webb and C A Edge of the Lilly Creamery returned to Bryan after attending the Ice Cream Manufacturers Convention in Cleveland Ohio. They completed a week in Cleveland with two days in St Louis Chicago and a Louisville layover before driving home to Bryan.
The Washington Evening Star reports that Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd made his fourth plea for immunity in exchange for surrender to the Justice Department. J. Edgar Hoover rejected the overtures, saying Hoover would not negotiate with gangsters after the killing of a federal agent.
The high of 95 degrees and low of 61 degrees were recorded last week with no rainfall. Temperatures for the week were listed for daily reference.
Sheriff J. H. Reed recovered radiator caps held at the county jail after they had been sold by suspects near a football game scene. Police officials report numerous complaints about spare tire and radiator cap thefts from autos parked at night.
Funeral services for A. W. Shelton an 83 year old Newsome resident were held Saturday evening at his niece Mrs. George Lightsey home with Rev J P Brown officiating. He died Saturday morning after moving from Georgia to Texas twenty years ago where he worked as a farmer. His niece Mrs Lightsey is the sole close survivor.
At Texas A M College College Station Oct 23 nearly three score veteran peace officers attended a tear gas demonstration as part of a short course sponsored with the League of Texas Municipalities. G J Lacey of Houston led the demo and had earlier discussed police ballistics.
Atlas Pipeline Company of Shreveport, an affiliate of Spar tan Refining, lowers East Texas oil from 1.00 to 0.60 per barrel. Daily purchases total 5 000 to 6 000 barrels. The move ends a 12 month price stability in the midcontinent and comes amid hot oil trading at 30 to 50 cents per barrel. Blame is placed on poor enforcement of hot oil violators and the administration's inaction.
Kilgore Oct. 23 Captain E N Stanley chief engineer of the Texas Railroad commission said he would recommend the commission shut down the East Texas oil field if a general cut in crude oil occurs.
Saturday session in Madisonville features Dr. L A Woods Texas public instruction chief addressing four sections of teachers and administrators from Brazos to Robertson counties. The program includes classroom teaching administration vocational teaching and patrons and trustees with experts from A and M College Tex Library state health and music programs.
Ft Worth resident N M Butler was arrested Saturday afternoon by Sheriff J H Reed for driving a car while intoxicated. He posted bail and was released that night. A complaint was filed in Justice J T McGee's court. Butler, en route to the Aggie TCU game, collided between Kurten and Bryan with W M Kehlenbrink, injuring Mrs Kehlenbrink who suffered a fractured arm and bruises, with both cars heavily damaged.
Rev J J Pipkin invites Dr W H Andrew pastor of Bryan First Baptist to preach at Edge Baptist Friday and Saturday nights this week in a revival series. He will be accompanied by members of his church and Bryan residents are urged to attend the services.
A Lions Club Tuesday noon meeting featured a music program by Miss Mildred Sally Miss Kath leen Stuart and Mrs Evelyn Sanders Williams. Dr W H Andrew for the Brazos County Federation of Women's Clubs urged support for the county rural school library growth and the club was asked to donate one book per member.
The U S justice department designates George Baby Face Nelson as the new No 1 public enemy after Pretty Boy Floyd falls. Nelson, linked to the Dillinger gang, is charged with killing federal agent Carter Baum near Mercer Wisconsin in April. John Hamilton also of the Dillinger faction is ranked No 2.
George Horner, longtime general agent at Galveston for Clyde-Mmallory lines, is transferred to New York City as general freight agent. His Bryan friends note his frequent visits to Bryan and College communities. Mrs. Horner, formerly Vesta Turner of Bryan, is the daughter of J. T. Turner.
James L. Robinson and Mrs. Minnie Dean and C. C. Rice and Fay Phillips have been issued marriage licenses by County Clerk Clyde Goen.
Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce directors learned 31 of the SY objectives for the year were achieved or will be. The major project is the road from Carrs Store Burleson county to the new Brazos river bridge on Highway 21. A Dec 14 Santa Claus parade was set, with Dallas floats and pre Christmas displays urged by Bryan businessmen. R E Bayless outlined rural rehabilitation progress noting 42 of Brages county families were placed in, leased and rehabilitated.
The Brazos chapter Texas Game and Fish Protective Association held its first annual banquet at Sue Haswell Park. Norman Dansby was elected president with Carl Sprague as vice president Lamar Williams secretary and Milton Franklin assistant secretary. Directors include E B Elliott N A Stewart Ross Jones and others. The group reviewed last year’s work and planned a continued predatory extermination program with new member drives. Boxing, music, and a dog show accompanied the event.
The Grimes County Fair at Anderson will run daily with a rodeo and athletic show. It will host 12 community exhibits plus many school and commercial displays, prompting building enlargements and extra tent space. Navasota Citizens' Band performs Thursday with a 7 p.m. play by Courtney school in the auditorium. Friday is School Day with State Superintendent L. A. Woods speaking at 10:30 a.m.
Bryan sector cotton shows higher grade and staple than state averages. McDowell notes 64 percent of gin loaded cotton is 15 16 inch or longer versus 34 percent statewide, with favorable length distribution and no below middling on white or spotted grades.
Bryan resident Paul Dansby spoke at the Smetana community meeting detailing rural rehabilitation highlights. He noted liberal landowner renovation terms and longer three year contracts. County Agent Reagan urged a rural work center for Smetana and immediate action, with a committee formed to confer with county relief administrator Mrs. J L Brock as a barn fire interrupted the gathering.
Roy Watson a Dallas dry goods and shoe display man has joined the Eugene Edge and Son sales force. He will oversee window displays interior stock and assist in sales. Watson has moved his wife and one child to Bryan and plans to make it home.
After a two hour debate the American Legion sub committee on adjusted compensation failed to agree on the type of bonus resolution to be presented at the convention in Miami.
