Sen Charles Curtis of Kansas Republican Senate leader announces entry into the 1928 presidential contest. In a letter to Roy Stone of Topeka he says he would be honored to be the Kansas delegation’s candidate if urged for nomination at the Republican National Convention.

He cites 1924 25 losses from sterility and low yields and notes control relies on irrigation and crop rotation with alfalfa to ensure steady moisture and root zone supply.

Bryan Free Baptist pastor Rev J J Tatum began preaching in July 1899 and has spent 21 years here, serving as pastor at various times and as field secretary for 12 years while keeping Bryan home. He baptized over 3 000, built seven churches, joined more than 1 000 couples, and mentored 28 young men into the ministry including two who went abroad. He actively supported youth and is a football and baseball fan.
R M Kleberg president of the Texas land Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association told the interstate commerce commission hearing in cattle rates in the Southwest that conditions in South and West Texas over the past year were good but not ideal. He declined to predict the cattle business future noting uncertainty and that while there was some price improvement it followed the general business trend. He added nothing would cause cattle raisers to be over jubilant.

The Friendship Bible Class of the First Baptist church hosted its monthly social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Bullock with a Halloween theme. Guests included Mrs. Bullock and several others, games entertained the group for two hours, and a refreshments plate featuring orange ice and yellow cosmos marked the close.
Bryan Little Theatre voted unanimously to award a prize in Bryan high school next spring for the best one act play written by a student. Miss Julia Southerd presented a one act titled Rehearsal by Christopher Morley with cast Dorothy Doane Kathleen Bullard Marie Elizabeth Webb Ida Belle Higgs Louise Weddington and Elizabeth Holt. The group thanked Miss Southerd and the cast for the program.
Hon O. D. Baker of Orange formerly of Gause Milam county visited Bryan today with his daughter Mrs. W. G. Alsbrook en route to Hearne for the opening of the Brazos River bridge at Old Nashville tomorrow where he will be a principal speaker. Baker represented Milam in the 87th and 38th legislatures and is active in Texas development work heading a demonstration farm in Orange county overseeing thousands of acres.
The Lions Club trades day committee postponed the event from Saturday to allow broader planning. Chairman Harry S. Edge led the meeting with members Bill Wimberly J. E. Henson Charles Griesser A. M. Brock Jess Hensarling Noah Dansby R. C. Franks and Tom Suber in attendance.
In response to a late telegram from Jasper the son and family of Dr E W Solomon left by car to be with him. Dr Solomon formerly pastor of the First Methodist church in Bryan, aged 76, is in ill health and many friends are anxious for his recovery.
