Washington Park Aims as Texas Shrine on Original Site

Hill Before Justice Over Tenant Killing in Millican

T S Hill of Millican surrendered after a fatal shooting of a negro tenant named Will Jones, about 50, on the A S Hill farm three miles from Millican. Hill says Jones threatened to leave tenancy and a dispute over balances led to the killing. Hill released on $500 bond. preliminary trial set for Monday at 10 a.m. before Justice J W Hamilton.

Bryan City Board declines sale of municipal plant

City Commission of Bryan, after full discussion, declines a proposal to purchase the city’s municipal utilities. A letter from City Manager J Bryan Miller to Western Public Service Company superintendent Paul Freeman states there is no gain in surrendering Bryan’s power plant and distribution systems. Qualified 19 Denied Injunction For City Office

At Bryan Main Street cleanup operation over the weekend four men worked from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday to ready the street for Sunday. City Manager J Bryan Miller says the routine will continue each weekend. Residents are urged to avoid parking on Main Street and at intersections after 10 p.m. Saturdays. Edge Baptist Church Celebrates 34th Anniversary

Edge Baptist Church marks its 34th anniversary with an all day meeting last Sunday. The event opened with a roll call of charter members led by Mrs Julia Moore the living member. Pastor J J Pipkin led vows and preached Faith and Works. A big noon dinner was enjoyed by church and visitors under the oaks. Afternoon programs featured music and reports on B Y P U Sunday school growth with junior and senior unions and rapid Bible reading. The church elected officers and read a letter to Brazos Association noting growth and 24 new members. The building was cleaned repainted and a new piano bought. A pastor was recalled after a brief retirement and Methodists and Free Baptists joined in endorsing the call. Plans for the new year include enlargement and improvements.

Mrs Gandy Dies After Illness in Brazos County

Mrs Margarite Gandy wife of A B Gandy a farmer of Rock Prairie died last evening after a paralytic attack. She and her son Arthur and granddaughter Merle returned from Bryan when she was stricken. Funeral will be held Friday at the Rock Prairie Baptist church with burial in Wellborn cemetery. She leaves a husband three daughters and four sons and several siblings.

Accident scene near College Station involving two cars

Madison Hall recounted a collision on College Road near Bryan as a car turning from the McCaghren area faced the opposite lane. Hall attempted to pass a parked vehicle and collided with a Negro driver’s car, bending the front wheel and damaging the steering, while the right rear door glass broke. The other car sustained a broken front wheel and heavy damage.
