Fatty Bolton fatally wounded after street confrontation
W L Fatty Bolton a local saloon operator on Old Highway No 6 near Grimes county was shot and fatally wounded Saturday night by W A Lumpkin of Old Washington. Bolton died Sunday morning and a negro accompanying him was killed. Reports say Bolton had battered Lumpkin Friday night with a six shooter and Lumpkin then shot Bolton and the other man as they neared Lumpkin’s home.

Austin October 20 The House killed a resolution by Rep McCalla Houston to ask Governor Allred if he planned to submit amending the pension law during the current special session It would have sought his views on tightening the pension act Opponents said the governor had indicated no revision The chamber also passed bills to double horse race bets tax and levy a half cent per pound on carbon black with increased state share The Senate favored an additional wager tax and discussed carbon black rates

Child's Arm Broken In Auto Crash Near Bryan
Grace Brison aged five suffered a broken arm when the car she rode in collided with a machine driven by Eston Williams about 11 miles south of Bryan on Highway 6. Mrs Evelyn Williams of Houston drove the other car. Both vehicles were badly damaged and the other occupants sustained only minor bruises.

Italio Americans Contribute to Bernardi Statue Unveiling
The two day Texas Centennial celebration featured the unveiling of a Prospero Bernardi statue. Gov. James V. Allred spoke and unveiled the statue, created by James V. Browning. Bryan and Brazos county residents contributed $400, with a banquet at the Adolphus Hotel attended by 500 plus guests.

Blaze In Cotton Threatens 3 000 Bales On Sunday
A Sunday morning fire in the Bryan Compress and Warehouse Company warehouse threatened about 3 000 bales of cotton. The sprinkler system and fire department stopped the blaze with only slight damage, estimated at a bale or less. Firefighters moved out 27 bales to reach the fire, which had been brought to the warehouse Friday.

In Bryan last Wednesday a dying mother, Mrs. Louella Cox, aged by illness, was visited by five of her long lost children she had not seen in over twenty years. The reunions began after her daughter Mattie Grimes urged a radio appeal. voices of the missing siblings were finally offered at her bedside, bringing a moment of peace before she slipped back into a coma.

Tick Eradication Continued in Brazos County
Two men of the Bureau of Animal Industry worked in Brazos county in September on tick eradication. They inspected or dipped 247 herds, totaling 5,783 cattle, with no infestations found and no tick quarantine violations reported. The effort is under R. E. Smith of the Livestock Sanitary Commission, based in Nava Rosa.

No Case Found In Haley Murder Trial
The trial of Clint Haley charged with murdering his wife ended without a conviction as the state failed to present a case. The defense argued the fatal shot was aimed at the wife’s companion. Brazos county spent about $150 to transport Haley, plus jury costs and other expenses.

Brazos Children Receive Crippled-Children Care
Twenty Brazos county children have received treatment at the Galveston hospital for Crippled Children this year averaging 28 weeks each. Six children are currently under treatment. Of the 20 helped, nine are white, eight are negro, and three are Mexican, as reported by county health nurse Mrs Edna Abbot Shelton to state officials.
