The Bi ological Survey of the United States Department of Agriculture notes toads are valuable in pest control as they consume many harmful insects. They eat ants bees wasps and other insects and can tolerate some poisonous prey. The oak toad in the Southeast feeds mainly on ants while the Colorado toad, up to 9 inches, can swallow birds though its diet is mainly insects.
