College and Bryan crowds view A and M barnyard show

About five hundred people attended a College Station exhibition of A and M steers and horses prepared by the Animal Husbandry department for state and national fairs this fall. Sixteen steers and several horses were shown before regulations on foot and mouth disease halted further displays.

Dr Harold Major Fills Pulpit At Local Baptist Churches

Dr Harold Major, pastor of Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas, preached Sunday evening at First Baptist Church in Bryan after delivering 11 o'clock address in Guion Hall College. He spoke on Second Kings 4 25, to a full auditorium as Dr John A Held praised their long friendship and anticipated a memorable sermon. Crowds greeted Major after the service expressing appreciation.

U D C Elects Officers At First Meeting Of Year

Ross Chapter No 100 United Daughters of the Confederacy convened at the home of Mrs Albert Buchaner for the first 1924 25 meeting. Officers were elected and reports showed dues paid and archives stored, with delegates named to state and national conventions.

Scoutmasters Training School gains two new members

I E Warren and Chas Sosolik join the class of prospective scoutmasters in Bryan representing the Catholic denomination. Training runs 6:30 to 8 at the Chamber of Commerce rooms this week and invites any man interested in boys work to attend or observe. Stray note: two mules missing from Newsom farm near Jones bridge on Brazos river, sorrel and brown heavyset, rewards offered.

Lions Club Plans For Greater Growth And Progress

The Lions Club weekly luncheon at the Episcopal Parish House featured a program with Betsy Searcy, Lola Long, and Ella Wright songs, plus S. C. Hoyle of A and M College speaking on Lionism. New member T. A. Munson spoke, a playground chute was proposed at East Side School with $75 to $100 funding discussed, and a minstrel show was organized to raise funds. The club will continue meeting at the parish house with next week’s attendance extended to Lion spouses. M. S. Mial visited from his Brazos Bottom plantation.

Delphian Chapter of Bryan Opens First Meeting

The Bryan Delphian Chapter held its first meeting of the club year at the Carnegie Library on Friday October 3 with Mrs. Thomas Lundin presiding. Members discussed year priorities and formed attendance and publicity committees. The program featured a drama lesson led by Mrs. M R Bentley and group discussions on modern drama and national spirit. Next meeting is scheduled for Friday October 17 with Mrs J A Moore leading.

The State of Texas vs Avery Greer ended in acquittal after a long jury wait. Monroe Robertson received a two year suspended sentence for killing Ulysses Hines in Brazos Bottom near Steele's Store. Bryan High Beats Hearne High 13 to 0 in Edge Field Thriller

Mrs Nina Colbert Dies in Houston After Illness

Obituary notes Mrs Nina Colbert aged about 60 who died in Houston after surgery at Baptist hospital. She lived in Bryan years with daughter Mrs T B Hubbard, later moved to Houston with husband. Survived by two daughters and two sons. Funeral held in Houston with burial there.

Road repairs to begin on Bryan A and M road

County Judge H. O. Ferguson says work on the Bryan A and M road will start Thursday. Landa Rock Products of New Braunfels will ship two carloads daily of crushed rock to Bryan for widening the paved highway between Bryan and College. State Highway Department ordered the repair with no delays expected.
