Five Thousand Cattle Slaughtered Amid Foot and Mouth Controls

Houston dispatch reports the slaughter of more than 5000 cattle in addition to Harris county cattle. The animals grazing within a 20 mile radius of the original infection are to be destroyed today though not yet showing symptoms. Texas Livestock Commission seeks changes to embargoes by fourteen states.

Infant McMahan Named As Clyde Died Tuesday Night

Clyde M. McMahan infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McMahan died Tuesday evening at 6 30 in a local hospital. The body was sent to North Zulch Texas for funeral services at Rock Prairie cemetery. Survived by parents one sister and six brothers.

Jury Hung In Greer Case Forces February Retrial

In district court a hung jury in the Dave and Avery Greer liquor manufacture case prompted a new trial in February under Judge W C Davis after about 24 hours of deliberation. The I G Turner murder case involving Harry Lysinger killing a convict on College Road August 11 was postponed to February on defense motion. No other matters were heard today.

Coolidge Greets Delegates at the Radio Conference

President Calvin Coolidge met with delegates of the third National Radio Conference at the White House on October 8. He urged government control of the air to be maintained with maximum freedom and thanked the delegates for cooperating on radio development and regulation.

Kurten Community Fair Set for October 17

The Kurten community fair is finally scheduled for Friday October 17. Mrs Will Henderson in charge says the new school auditorium will be dedicated that day with Judge W C Davis of Bryan delivering the dedication address. West Virginia coal operator shot near Phillip

Lee Sandridge a leading West Virginia coal operator and Democratic figure was shot en route to Meridian mines to reopen on a non union basis. Three companions were wounded as assailants fired from brush alongside the road. Sandridge is said to be in serious condition. Roy Hudspeth Fatally Nonfatal Hunting Accident

County Tax Collector Roy Hudspeth is hospitalized in San Antonio after a hunting accident near Lake Medina. He and his brother in law H M Woodall were on a bird hunting trip when a loaded 12 gauge auto matic shotgun discharged repeatedly. One finger was blown off and other stray shot injuries occurred. He rests easily today and is not fatally injured.

Hudspeth Eyesight Prospects Improve After Accident

Roy Hudspeth is expected to regain eyesight after injuries from last week’s accident. Doctors at Baylor Hospital in San Antonio report rapid improvement and that he is resting well following an X-ray exam. Relatives Worsham and Woodall provided details, noting Tobias of Bryan was also present.
