A second pantry demonstration is planned for Kurten, inviting every county woman interested in economical living to attend at the Komar home. Brazos County women have preserved winter food supplies and shown that much living can come from the farm garden, a movement needing broad citizen support statewide.

J E Stanford Southern Agriculturist editor just returned from Arkansas speaking tour under University of Arkansas Extension Service with 26 engagements Tyler Haswell learns of his nephew A B Bryan’s illness and plans to travel to Tyler for bedside care.
The Saddle and Sirloin Club of Texas A and M announces the Fourteenth Annual Rodeo and Pageant will take place Friday night October 14 in the animal husbandry pavilion. O M Pribbie of Fort Worth will be ringmaster. Club officers include H A Fitzhugh president and G W Holmes business manager among others.
Hardy Weedon of Harvey was kicked in the head by a mule Monday night and rendered unconscious. He was taken to a local hospital where doctors reported no skull fracture and he will be carried home late this afternoon.
Military officials report that Japanese troops killed more than 1,000 Chinese followers of General Li Hai Tsing in a weekend battle near Tashing and Anganchi. About 8,000 of Li's men were trapped on high ground by river overflow, with artillery aiding the slaughter. Infantry and air forces pursued the survivors.
A certificate of merit for National Negro Health Week was awarded to R. C. Neal, Kemp High School principal, for leading health efforts with Brazos County Health Board. An immunization clinic vaccinated 28 Kemp students against diphtheria. 34 Mt. Pleasant pupils were also immunized. Health talks, films from the University of Texas, and junior health classes complemented the program running April 30 to May 10, funded by Christmas stamps.
J B Barnett and associates will begin setting casing in the Dodd tract well at Iola next week. Barnett says they believe the site holds oil and aim to bring it in. Work has continued intermittently for months amid reports of encouraging signs.
The Steep Hollow Cemetery Association will work all day Thursday October 6 on the Steep Hollow cemetery.
The Brazos County District Court criminal docket for weeks three and four was set by Judge W C Davis. Notable cases include Wayne Davis charged with murder of his son in law Willie Lovell W H Cole indicted on ten counts of embezzlement larceny and fraudulent documents and H F Randolph indicted on nine counts of forgery and passing forged paper. Court dates span Oct 6 10 and 11 with Lamar Bethea defense. Grand jury report praises county jail operations.
The Brazos County Singing Convention gathered a large crowd at Reliance Church for an all day Sunday meeting. Officers presided with B L Risinger as vice president and J C Cloud as secretary treasurer. The May 1933 meeting will elect new officers and the current president Jess Hensarling has died.
The Week of Prayer led by the Woman's Missionary Society at First Baptist features daily sessions from 3 o'clock each afternoon with various leaders. Highlights include installations of new officers Mrs. W E K Wimberly president and Mrs. Forrest Jones treasurer and topics on Mexican Missions and Christian education.
Burglars took about 240 dollars from Rob Edge Store near Edge on Sunday night carried off the safe and shattered it according to Sheriff J H Reed via Constable J O Orr. The thieves left no identifiable crew and the safe was later found at Bee Creek with bottom knocked out. Police link the crime to similar burglaries at Buchanan and Presnal stores in Kurten.
Henry Woodward, a Black man, was found guilty of burglary in district court and sentenced to six years in state prison. The charge of cow theft was dismissed.
Lawrence H. Berryman two years old died at a Bryan clinic on Thursday at 5 30 am after a brief diphtheria illness. Parents Mr and Mrs Oscar Berryman of Sugarland mourn his loss during a family visit near Bryan. Funeral services were held at 4 pm at McCulloch Dansby chapel with Rev Jesse Thomson in charge and burial in Bryan city cemetery. He is also survived by two brothers Martin Lee of Houston and James Oscar of Sugarland.
Three Goose Creek citizens visited Bryan on Wednesday to inspect the power plant and gather data on cost maintenance operation rates and profits. W Louis Pendegraft publisher W H Sheehan engineer and C W Swayne businessman accompanied the party and at city hall discussed a proposed 350000 bond issue for a Goose Creek light and power plant.
Funeral services for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry N. Snapp of Bryan were held at 4 p.m. today with interment in Bryan city cemetery. The mother Mrs. Snapp, seriously ill, was reported somewhat improved. The Snapps lived in Bryan earlier this year before moving to Houston and returned to Bryan, staying with Mrs. L. H. Tucker.
Division Engineer John K. Blair received blue prints for paving Highway 6 from Bryan to College Station and Highway 21 from Bryan to the Brazos River. Plans, approved by the highway department, await October commission action. County Judge A. B. McSwain and City Manager R. G. Williams will travel to Austin next week to seek federal approval so bids can be advertised in time for contracts.
James Monroe, a Black man, was shot recently and died Wednesday. Addie Parish, the accused, was indicted for assault with intent to murder, released on $500 bond. After Monroe's death the charge was changed to murder and Parish was re arrested.

Demonstrators at Mrs. M. S. Broach’s Tabor home showcased a pantry with 1591 containers stored for six months of the year. The display included 397 fruit and juice, 56 leafy vegetables, 41 starchy vegetables, 243 other vegetables, 114 meat, 28 tomatoes, 87 pickles, 100 preserves, 134 time saving foods, plus 400 pounds cured meat and 1050 pounds other products valued at 270.90 dollars.
Mrs Lee J Rountree 26th district speaks on the Texas Legislature to the Business and Professional Women's Club at the Parker home Friday night praising the session. She notes the oil royalty fund settlement between Texas University and A and M College, with A and M set to receive 250000 on September first for three years and later one third of royalties from University lands. A companion bill regarding A and M board of directors is mentioned.
Contractors will begin highway improvement in Brazos County soon and require 300 men. Workers should register with a committee named by division engineer John E. Blair to provide lists of job seekers. The committee includes Mrs. J L Brock, Mrs. A J Buchanan, County Judge A S McSwain, W R McCullough, and R G Williams. The group discussed seeking Reconstruction Finance Corporation relief funds with East Texas and Gov. Sterling backing. D L Wilson will coordinate with Good Cheer and Red Cross representatives.
The cotton belt reports a surge of leafworm moths in central Texas per Dr. F L Thomas of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station. The bulletin notes widespread moths around lamps indicating migration. foliage destruction may help boll weevil control and reduce rotting of unopened bolls due to rain, aiding early maturing cotton.
The Science and Social Science Seminars begin their 1932 33 program on October 10 with Dr H Y Benedict president of Texas University delivering Getting the Distance of the Stars From their Motions. Opening meeting in Sbisa Hall includes a dinner by W A Duncan and reduced plate charges. Reservations due by the seventh.
Delegates elected by L S Ross Chapter No 100 United Daughters of the Confederacy to attend the State U D C convention at Abilene are Mrs Albert Buchanan Mrs F L Thomas and Mrs M F E Wallace. Alternates are Mrs J M Dunn Mrs W O Hearne and Mrs Horace Ferguson. Chapter delegates to attend the General U D C convention at Memphis Tenn in November are Mrs H B McDowell Mrs Jas Rainey Mrs Gee Foster with alternates Mrs E F Parks Mrs De Paul Dansby and Mrs P S Park.
Earl Shelton, Bryan high school football standout, underwent surgery Monday for frontal sinus injuries suffered in Friday's Bryan Mexia game. He is doing well and in no danger, with unclear prospects for returning to play.
Approximately fifty guests from other schools attended the Episcopal Student Council of the Diocese of Texas at A and M over the weekend. Bishop Quinn spoke at the Saturday banquet and Rev. Thomas Carruthers led the theme Adventurous Religion with group discussions. The program included lunch, a business meeting, a banquet and dance, corporate communion, and a Sunday breakfast.
Last week featured fall temperatures with a maximum of 87 degrees on Monday and Saturday and a minimum of 58 degrees on Thursday. Weekly rainfall totaled 1.81 inches with Monday recording 1.80 inches and small amounts on other days.
Col. C. C. Todd governor of Rotary’s 47th district returned from a nineteen day tour visiting eleven clubs in the Rio Grande Valley and five more in Hebronville Kingsville Falfarias and Laredo. He and Mrs. Todd will depart Sunday for a ten club West Texas itinerary lasting until October 21.
District Judge W F Robertson dismissed Gov. Sterling's bid to test Miriam Ferguson's right to be the Democratic gubernatorial nominee. He held the court had no jurisdiction over the contest and that certification by Secretary of State Jane McCallum must await further action. The ruling leaves Ferguson’s candidacy on track for the November ballot.
The Bryan Woman's Club starts its 37th consecutive year on Wednesday Oct 5 with incoming president Mrs H C Fulgham entertaining the full membership on President's Day at 5 o'clock at the Woman's Club building The club traces its roots to the Mutual Improvement Circle founded in 1895 as the mother organization guiding Bryan civic efforts through the years It aims to create an organized core for community improvement and progress Continued on page 3.
