State relief funds exhausted as $1.2 million in checks prepared

The Brazos county district court criminal section met Monday under Judge W. C. Davis for a two week term. Defendants pled guilty in several cases, including George Salazar for motor truck intoxication and theft, receiving two years in state prison, and Monroe Bass for burglary with a two year term. Louis Lopez pled guilty to aggravated assault for an 80 day jail sentence. Howard Hampton faces trial for four burglary counts, waived jury, with tentative next steps and other grand jury cases set for Oct. 9 through Oct. 16.

Mrs. Lorain Needham Steen aged 88 a widow of M C Steed died at her daughter’s home in Bryan after long illness. Born August 4 1846 in Cherokee County she lived in Boonville Brazos County since childhood and remained there through the founding of Bryan. She leaves two daughters, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, one brother Chas Needham of Houston. Funeral Sunday at old Boonville cemetery with Rev R L Brown officiating.
