Mr and Mrs Charles Edge and James Whaley traveled to Austin to watch the Texas Longhorns play Arkansas. Other Bryan residents joining were Mr and Mrs George Hance, Mr and Mrs Sam Parry, and Mrs Clifford Mitchell. Plans include Thanksgiving visits and family gatherings around the Aggie game on November 30 at Kyle Field.

Allen Academy class officers elected in lower divisions

Annual class elections at Allen Academy select officers for the Sophomore, Freshman, and abbreviated lower class. Named leaders include N B Allen as president of the sophomores with Robert Wasom as vice president and Lawrence Kilgore as secretary treasurer, plus J R Bryan as reporter. Insurance man promoted to field supervisor in Bryan

J. O. Giles, long-time general agent for Fidelity Union Life in Bryan since July 1, is promoted to field supervisor traveling for the home office in Dallas. He will assume duties December 1. No replacement named yet. J. N. Wheeler and W. T. Meald will handle Bryan agency duties.

Cottonwood Baptist church donated a food collection valued at 35 dollars for Buckner's Orphans Home in Dallas. The haul includes 52 hens, canned goods worth 7.95, 3.15 dollars in potatoes, and a 3.50 dollar cash gift. The organizing committee was Miss Mary Locke, Miss Annie Locke, Mrs. J. T. Grand Chapter appoints Bryances member to unfinished business

Mrs. M. R. Bentley was named by Mrs. Rose Potter grand matron of Texarkana to the committee on unfinished business for the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. The panel will convene at the Grand Chapter meeting next October in Fort Worth.

Head of Legion Plans Financing Texas Centennial

State Commander L. Van Perkins said the Texas centennial commission will meet in Dallas to discuss sharing financing plans with the Legion. The Connally-Patman coinage bill authorizes 2 million centennial half dollars at $1 each to fund a Texas museum on UT grounds, with coins sold by the Legion and proceeds used for construction and eventual UT use.

Colantha Ormsby Bessie a Texas A M Holstein cow set a new state butterfat record in 10 months division Class B as senior 4 year old. She produced 486 lbs fat and 14 794 4 lbs milk in one record, totaling 47 565 4 lbs milk and 1 478 6 lbs fat across three lactations. Bessie later sold to the Veterinary Department after injury.

Vocational teachers gather for A&M conference Saturday

Twenty six vocational agriculture teachers from the vicinity will attend a one day conference at Texas A and M College. Funeral Service Held for Mrs. T. F. Redden at Willow Hole

Funeral services were held Thursday at Willow Hole for Mrs. T. F. Redden who died Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Ida Rice near Bryan. Born Tencie Crocker January 7 1856 in Landielle county Mississippi she married T. F. Redden in Madison county September 28 1875. Survived by three sons Silas Robinson and Walter and four daughters Emmett Shef field Ida Rice Amanda Crawford Delia Fry. CWA Rules Pinpoint Hiring and Firing Standards in Austin

Civil Works Administration officials in Austin issued strict guidelines for relief workers. Unproductive loafers on CWA projects may be fired and cannot return to relief rolls. Seasonal workers cannot quit to join CWA labor, and aliens should not be employed. Those registered for CWA but not on direct relief lists will be considered for December 1 employment, and no CWA funds may be used for building erection.

Cotton Growers Seek Parity as Congress Deliberates

White House talks with Secretary Wallace leave Texas growers hopeful but cautious. J. R. McCrary, Calvert, reports from Washington that growers accomplished all possible until Congress convenes.
