Falls County Saloons Set December 12 Closing Date

Falls County commissioners court canvassed prohibition election results and set December 12 as the closing date for saloons. Saloons had asked to stay open until January 1, but Attorney J. W. Spivey warned that any side agreement could invalidate the vote. Judge Hefner announced publication of results next Wednesday.

Deserter Captured Near Camp Logan in Texas

Marshal Conlee and Deputy Wor ley captured a young man who claimed innocence but admitted desertion from Camp Logan in Texas. Clifford Akers of Illinois confessed he deserted Friday night and twice left his command to avoid punishment. He will be handed over to authorities on arrival at Camp Logan.

Barns and One Thousand Bushels Corn Burned

Two barns on C. W. Jones’s Carter's Creek farm burned Saturday night with about 1000 bushels of corn lost. Loss estimated at 2500 dollars with 1200 dollar insurance. Origin of fire unknown and Jones recalls previous barn losses in the city last year.
